SSFF hosts assessment team for floodlights and giant screens installation

The South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF) has taken another decisive step toward modernizing the nation’s premier football venue. On Sunday, the SSFF Committee for Investment and Marketing welcomed a team of engineering experts led by Engineer Xing Tee to conduct a detailed assessment for the installation of standard floodlights and giant digital screens at Juba National Stadium.

Speaking after the inspection, Committee Chairman Robert Zechariah Malook emphasized that the project is a key part of SSFF President Augustino Maduot’s vision to elevate football facilities to international standards.

“Together with my colleague, Albino Kuek Deng, we joined the engineers in inspecting the stadium to prepare for the installation of floodlights and giant screens. This is not just about technology, it’s about transforming the matchday experience for fans and ensuring our competitions meet global expectations. I can confidently say that by this season, the stadium will have fully functional floodlights and giant screens,” Robert said.

Engineer Xing Tee described the site assessment as “successful and promising,” assuring that his team will implement the project within the agreed timeframe to ensure timely readiness for upcoming competitions.

The installation of these facilities will mark a milestone in South Sudan’s football development, enabling evening matches and improving the atmosphere for both local and international fixtures.

Yirol West goalkeeper Madeng KJ retires from community football over ‘humiliation’

Yirol West goalkeeper Madeng Abilieny Acinkoc, popularly known as KJ, has announced his retirement from community football, citing years of humiliation and safety concerns.

In a statement, KJ said he had faced repeated incidents, including being threatened at gunpoint, accused of using “juju,” and having his personal belongings destroyed during matches. He recalled incidents in the Bahr el Ghazal Counties League where he was assaulted or intimidated by fans and players from rival counties.

KJ said his family advised him to quit after the latest incident in the Lakes State Peace Tournament between Yirol West and Yirol East, which he claims nearly sparked conflict between the two communities.

“No action was taken by Yirol West team officials against those who defamed or threatened me,” he said, adding that his reputation has been tarnished by local and international media.

The veteran goalkeeper, who has played for teams including Yirol United, Union FC, Zalan FC, and Wanjuma FC, described his talent as “genetic in the family” and vowed to pursue legal action against his defamers.
