Ngulawa's midfielder Samson Combo receives a gift for scoring in final

Ngulawa United FC midfielder, Samson Combo, has received a cash gift from a fan and prominent youth from Greater Mundri after scoring a goal in Monday's final.

Combo, who plays for Ngulawa United FC of Mundri, was awarded the money by Eliaba Adungu following the match.

Adungu had earlier promised to reward the first three Ngulawa United goal scorers in the final against Gurei City FC during the South Sudan Cup Group B stage, which was played on Monday, 9 March 2026.

However, the match ended in a 1–1 draw during regulation time, with Samson Combo scoring Ngulawa's only goal.

Following the draw, Ngulawa United later lost the match in a penalty shootout.

Eliaba Adungu is the founder of Adungu Nursery and Primary School in Mvolo County and is regarded as one of the prominent youths in Greater Mundri.

Mvolo commissioner bans nightclubs

The County Commissioner of Mvolo County, Western Equatoria, Rubben Amaai, has renewed a ban on nightclub activities, citing growing concerns that children are engaging in risky behaviors, including early pregnancy and juvenile delinquency during such events

This order was issued a few months ago, and he has now renewed it, urging enforcement agencies to implement it immediately. He said this order will stay in place as long as he is the commissioner, and it will only stop if he is removed from his position.

The renewal comes at a time when such nightclub activities are becoming widespread.

Mvolo youth says next Commissioner should not be an 'illiterate' person

A youth from Mvolo County of Western Equatoria State has appealed for the next county commissioner to be someone with strong education and leadership skills, stressing that the position should not be given to an 'illiterate' person.

He argue that the challenges facing Mvolo require capable hands.

Paul Wilson Hassen, a youth from Dari Payam in Mvolo County, emphasized that leadership should be based on merit rather than favoritism.

“The appointment of County Commissioners should be merit-based—focused on capability and qualifications. We need somebody with deep experience and expertise in public administration and rural development, someone who can spearhead initiatives, formulate policies, and champion development in the community,” Hassen said.

He further expressed concern that past leadership in Mvolo County has left gaps in development due to unqualified commissioners.

“In the past, Mvolo County has experienced a lot of incapable leaders who created a vacuum in development. We don’t want history to repeat itself during our watch. We are now in an era of intellectuals, experts, and diplomats—not traditions, illiteracy, and stubbornness,” he added.

Wilson urged anyone aspiring for the commissioner's position to ensure they meet the required qualifications.

“Make sure, if you're lobbying for the commissionership, you must attain the above-mentioned attributes,” he stressed.

In South Sudan, the appointment of County Commissioners is often based on loyalty rather than educational qualifications.

Wilson, a student from Greater Mundri, specifically from Mvolo, is currently pursuing a degree in veterinary studies at the University of Juba.

The current County Commissioner of Mvolo, Rubben Amaai Majok, graduated from the University of Juba's College of Economics and Social Studies, where he majored in Political Science.

Breaking News: Lakama'di parents reject exam relocation to Kedi'ba, threatens boycott.

The administration of Lakama'di Primary School has confirmed receiving a letter from the County Education Secretary notifying them that pupils registered under the Lakama'di examination centre will be required to relocate to Kedi'ba Payam to sit for the upcoming Primary Leaving Examination. It is said to have no explanation for the sudden relocation.

A teacher, who requested anonymity, stated that the notification has shocked all stakeholders involved.

“This decision has shocked the candidates, teachers, parents, and the entire Lakama'di community, including the schools that rely on this centre for examinations. Sitting for the examination has now become a significant challenge. If the relocation to Kedi'ba stands, candidates from Lakama'di centre will not participate in the 2024 examination,” the teacher said.

Lakama'di Primary Leaving Examination Centre, established in 2019, is one of the oldest centres in the region and has hosted examinations for the past four years. This year, 55 pupils from Lakama'di registered for the examinations. Mundri East County currently has four examination centres: Kedi'ba, Witto, Lui, and Lakama'di.

Nelson Juma Albino, the acting education supervisor in Lakama'di Payam, revealed to Witto TV that he had contacted the County Education Secretary for Examination regarding the directive. However, the secretary explained that the decision came from the headquarters in Yambio.

"I reached out to our examination secretary, Wesley Benjamin, who delivered this directive while distributing examination materials to centres. He stated that the relocation was mandated by those who brought the examination papers," Albino said.

In response, parents convened a meeting and unanimously resolved not to send their children to Kedi'ba for the exams due to the abrupt nature of the decision and the lack of a valid explanation.

“We resolved during a meeting at Lakama'di Primary School that our pupils will not sit for this year’s exams. The directive lacks justification, and we strongly demand an explanation,” Albino added.

Albino further stated that unless the County Education Department provides a valid reason and intervenes by Saturday, November 16, the parents' resolution will be implemented.

"If no reasonable explanation is given by tomorrow [16th November] morning, we will uphold our decision. The distance from Lakama'di to Kedi'ba is over 30 miles," he concluded.

Efforts to reach the County Education Secretary for examination and County Education Director for clarification were unsuccessful. Albino noted that the County Education Director distanced himself from the issue, instead directing the issue should be addressed by the examination secretary.

The Primary Leaving Examination is scheduled to begin nationwide on Monday, November 18, 2024.

The Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Sports in Western Equatoria State has praised Mboriman Mbory for his exemplary efforts in organizing an inter-payam football tournament, stating that such initiatives align with the government’s objectives.

It emphasized that Mboriman's work serves as a complement to the government's activities and encouraged others who wish to undertake similar initiatives to seek approval and guidance from the ministry.

Earlier this week, the Ministry issued a directive requiring individuals and organizations apart from SSFA and its sub-associations to obtain prior approval before organizing football tournaments. Violators of this directive will face a fine of one million South Sudanese pounds.
