20/06/2026

During its Android-focused I/O event, Google finally pulled back the curtain on what we can expect to see with the brand’s next big mobile update: Android 17. Although there are still a few lingering questions that probably won’t be answered until we get fully test out Android 17 for ourselves, the early sense is that this could be a major leap forward for Google’s platform, with several features that are sure to make iPhone users jealous.

If you’ve been following our news coverage over the last few months then you’ll know that the rumour mill and various beta tests have churned out endless tidbits of information over what Android 17 would entail, and while this meant that some of the surprise was taken out of the main event, there were a few new features that caught us off guard, and most of them are related to AI.

It’s no real secret to anyone that Google is leading the charge right now when it comes to AI on smartphones, followed closely by Samsung, while Apple is leagues behind. It’s exactly why Apple will supposedly allow its AI model to lean on Gemini from iOS 27 onwards for more complex requests, so it makes sense why Google is continuing to double down on Gemini for Android 17.

Still, for those who are on the fence about AI or just aren’t enamoured by what it brings to the table, there are plenty of non-AI-led features that Google is implementing in Android 17, so it’s worth seeing what they are and how you can make the most of them. Further on, we also discuss when you can expect to see from Android 17 when it arrives on your device. (Source; tecadvicor.com)

20/06/2026

Paraguay midfielder Matias Galarza etched his name into FIFA World Cup history after scoring the fastest goal of the 2026 tournament, finding the net just 64 seconds into his side’s crucial Group D clash against Turkiye.

The 24-year-old capitalised on a Turkish turnover deep in their own half before unleashing a powerful low strike from outside the penalty area that beat goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir and gave Paraguay an early 1-0 lead.

The goal surpassed the previous fastest strike of the tournament, set on the same day earlier by Morocco midfielder Ismael Saibari, who scored after 70 seconds in his side’s 1-0 victory over Scotland.

For Paraguay, Galarza’s record-breaking effort came at a critical moment. La Albirroja entered the match under pressure following a heavy 4-1 defeat to the United States in their opening group fixture. The early breakthrough provided a significant boost to Paraguay’s hopes of reviving their World Cup campaign and altered the tactical complexion of the contest, forcing Turkiye to chase the game from the outset.

Turkiye, meanwhile, were already facing mounting pressure after a disappointing 2-0 loss to Australia in their tournament opener. The concession left them staring at the possibility of another damaging result and a bottom spot in Group D. (Source ; Southkoreannews.net)

Mobile network operators MTN, Zain and Digitel to increase on-net and off-net tariffs by 43 percent next week as the companies grapple with rising operational costs, foreign currency shortages and a weakening South Sudanese pound.

The increase will push voice call rates from SSP 180 to SSP 260 per minute. The planned tariff hike comes as MTN and Zain planned to shut down a combined 90 network sites across the country. MTN has proposed closing 55 sites, while Zain plans to shut down 35 in an initial phase. Industry sources said additional sites could be affected if economic conditions continue to deteriorate.

The operators presented their concerns to the National Communication Authority, arguing that although they generate revenue in South Sudanese pounds, many critical expenses must be paid in U.S. dollars. These include international bandwidth, licenses, network equipment, spare parts and other services sourced from abroad.

Telecom companies also face rising fuel costs, with most network sites relying on diesel generators due to limited access to reliable electricity.

Operators are seeking access to dollars at the official Bank of South Sudan exchange rate or tax exemptions on selected telecommunications imports from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and the South Sudan Revenue Authority. Sources said the proposed measures could help ease pressure on the sector and prevent further site closures.

The South Sudan National Communication Authority said it does not want operators to shut down network sites and is working to find ways for companies to continue operating within the country’s challenging economic environment.

19/06/2026

Renovation work has officially begun on the 110-kilometre road connecting the Majok-Yith-Thiou border town to Aweil East County and extending toward Al Mareem in Sudan, local authorities have confirmed.

The road serves as a vital economic corridor for communities living in both the highland and midland areas of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, facilitating trade and movement between South Sudan and Sudan.

The launch of the renovation project took place on Wednesday and was witnessed by the governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Charles Madut Akol, alongside Aweil East County Commissioner Garang Thiang Deng and officials from Majok-Yith-Thiou. The town was represented by the deputy mayor for planning and budgeting, James Thou Apath.

The rehabilitation work is being carried out by Ann Company Limited under a newly awarded contract.

Speaking to this publication on Thursday, Apath said the initiative was made possible through contributions from clearing agents operating at the Majok-Yith-Thiou border crossing.

Governor Charles Madut Akol reiterated earlier this week that his administration would continue providing fuel support to ensure the project progresses smoothly toward Al Mareem in Sudan’s South Kordofan State.(Source ; The Number One Citizens)

19/06/2026

Ferrari is on a strong rise in the new power unit regulations, but it can very easily start to go wrong again.

Former Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner has warned Ferrari that it must “stay grounded” following Lewis Hamilton’s emotional victory in the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

The seven-time world champion secured a memorable first win for Ferrari after capitalising on a well-timed virtual safety car, although his aggressive three-stop strategy would likely have seen him charge to the front regardless.

Hamilton and Ferrari have turned a significant corner in recent rounds, with the 41-year-old having finished second, second and first in the last three races.

Many now view the Briton as a genuine title contender after he moved to within 41 points of Kimi Antonelli, especially with Ferrari’s SF-26 continuing to receive major upgrades.

Hamilton’s win in Barcelona was Ferrari’s first since Charles Leclerc triumphed in the 2024 United States Grand Prix.

The Scuderia is making significant progress, reducing Mercedes’ advantage. However, Steiner has warned that it cannot afford to get ahead of itself or become overconfident.

Asked if Ferrari has turned a corner, Steiner said on the Red Flags podcast: “Let’s hope so for Fred [Vasseur]. In my opinion, it’s one of those things: you can’t have everything as perfect as it was last race weekend in Barcelona. It’s just not possible to get it right every time like that.(Source; racing news.com)
