Vice President Abdhelbagi calls for increased domestic health funding
The Vice President for Services Cluster, Hussien Abdhelbagi Akol, has called for stronger government commitment to domestic health financing during a national dialogue on HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria held at Pyramid Continental Hotel.
The one-day meeting focused on strategies under the Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 (GC8), a three-year program aimed at accelerating the fight against the three diseases. Stakeholders emphasized better coordination, resource mobilization, and improved health service delivery across the country.
Development partners urged the government to increase co-financing and allocate at least 15% of the national budget to the health sector. The Minister of Health, Sarah Cleto Rial, reaffirmed the government’s commitment and thanked partners for their continued support.
Vice President Abdhelbagi acknowledged ongoing challenges such as limited infrastructure and shortages of skilled health workers, stressing that increasing domestic investment is essential to ensure sustainable healthcare for South Sudanese communities.
