Warrap State Governor Amb. Bol Wek Agoth Bans Fattening Competitions After Two Deaths

Warrap State Governor, Amb. Bol Wek Agoth has announced a statewide ban on fattening competitions following the deaths of two young men this month in the Kuac Ayok community.

The cultural practice involves young men consuming excessive amounts of milk while avoiding solid food in a bid to rapidly gain weight, with the heaviest participant declaring the winner.

Governor Bol Wek Agoth said the decision was taken to safeguard lives as the government reviews the health and safety risks associated with the tradition.

Civil society leaders are urging swift interventions to prevent further tragedies linked to the practice.
