Mel Agasay Denies Taking Pills After Fans Notice His New Appearance, Says He Does Not Even Know What Weight-Gain Pills Look Like

Self-proclaimed Facebook celebrity Mel Agasay has denied claims circulating on Facebook that he took pills to gain weight after his new appearance attracted attention on social media.

Agasay recently returned from Jebel Iraq, where many South Sudanese are involved in mining activities. His followers noticed that he appeared bigger, with fuller cheeks compared to his previous appearance.

Some social media users speculated that he had taken pills such as cyproheptadine, dexamethasone, and vitamins, which they believed could have contributed to his weight gain.

However, Agasay denied taking any drugs. He said his time in Jebel Iraq, where he is doing business, has made him feel comfortable and healthier.

“Why is everyone accusing me of taking pills? The truth is that I don’t even know what the pills look like,” Agasay said jokingly.

He also criticized people for commenting on his appearance, saying people in Juba previously questioned why he was becoming thin.

“In Juba, when you become thin, they ask, ‘What happened to you? Why are you getting thin every day?’ And when you try to take care of yourself and improve your appearance, they say you are taking pills,” Agasay added.

Mel Agasay is a social media influencer and entertainer known for jokes, celebrity gossip, and commentary on trending issues among South Sudanese social media users.

Nimule Electrification Project Launched Under the Theme “Power Behind Progress”

Nimule, South Sudan 14 August 2026

The Government of the Republic of South Sudan, through the South Sudan Electricity Corporation (SSEC), in partnership with Conex Energy Corp, has officially launched the Nimule Electrification Project under the theme “Power Behind Progress.”

The launch brought together senior government officials, local authorities, community representatives and other stakeholders, marking an important milestone in the country’s efforts to expand access to reliable electricity and strengthen essential public services.

Among the dignitaries attending the occasion were Hon. Moulana Agok Makur, Minister of Energy and Dams; Hon. Joseph Kur Ajak, General Manager of the South Sudan Electricity Corporation; Hon. John Gatnyian Tot, Chairperson of the Specialized Committee for Energy and Dams in the Revitalized Transitional National Legislative Assembly; Hon. Lam Gabriel, Commissioner of Magwi County; Hon. Gatluak Riek, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, SSRA Nimule; and Hon. Lakku Allison, Member of Parliament representing Nimule; His Worship Caesar Langa Fuli, Mayor of Nimule Municipality; Ronald Marcelo Lagu, Operational manager Conex Energy corp -Nimule Electrification Project.

In his opening and welcoming remarks, Ronald Marcelo Lagu expressed appreciation to the host Ma’di community for the warm reception extended to Conex Energy Corp and for the cordial relationship maintained throughout the implementation of the project. He described the completion of the project as a significant achievement made possible through the responsibility entrusted to Conex Energy Corp by SSEC.

Lagu also commended SSEC for its continued cooperation and coordination with Conex Energy Corp, emphasizing that the successful implementation of the project was the result of collective effort and partnership among the relevant institutions and the local community.

Speaking on behalf of the local administration, Mayor Caesar Langa Fuli highlighted the importance of electricity to the social and economic development of Nimule. He noted that reliable power would contribute to improved livelihoods, business activity and delivery of public services.

The Mayor also used the occasion to appeal to the responsible authorities to give greater attention to the rehabilitation of the Nimule-Juba road, which remains an important national and regional transport corridor. He further called for consideration of a 2 percent allocation of relevant revenues to Nimule and Eastern Equatoria, stressing the importance of ensuring that host communities and the wider region benefit meaningfully from development initiatives.

For his part, Assistant Commissioner Gatluak Riek described the electrification project as a clear demonstration of the Government's commitment to providing essential services to the people of South Sudan.

He explained that reliable electricity would significantly enhance the operations of the South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) in Nimule. In the past, he noted, the high cost and logistical challenges associated with fuel had affected efforts to fully implement systems such as e-tax, surveillance and digital payment platforms. With the availability of electricity, he said, SSRA would be better positioned to strengthen and expand these systems for improved service delivery and revenue administration.

Meanwhile, SSEC General Manager Hon. Joseph Kur Ajak described the occasion as a celebration not only for Nimule but also for South Sudan as a nation. He attributed the successful implementation of the project to the strong bilateral relationship between South Sudan and Uganda, as well as the close cooperation among the institutions involved.

Hon. Joseph expressed appreciation to H.E. President General Salva Kiir Mayardit and all stakeholders whose support contributed to the realization of the project. He emphasized that the people of Nimule are the primary beneficiaries and called for collective responsibility in ensuring the sustainability and proper management of the electricity infrastructure.

He particularly underscored the important role of the local administration, noting that the continued sustainability of the project would require close cooperation between the municipality, the community, SSEC and other stakeholders.

Delivering the keynote remarks, Hon. Moulana Agok Makur, Minister of Energy and Dams, commended Conex Energy Corp for the smooth implementation of the project and thanked the host community for its cooperation and support throughout the process.

The Minister reaffirmed the Government's commitment to expanding electricity access and delivering essential services to communities across South Sudan under the leadership of President General Salva Kiir Mayardit. He encouraged the people of Nimule to make responsible and productive use of the electricity infrastructure, particularly in ways that can improve livelihoods, support businesses and stimulate local economic growth.

Looking ahead, the Minister highlighted a number of major energy initiatives that could further strengthen electricity supply in the country. Among them, he mentioned plans related to the transmission of electricity from Karuma Hydropower to Juba and the long-term development of the Fula Dam project.

A notable point of convergence among the speakers was the recognition that electrification is more than an infrastructure project. It is an important foundation for economic growth, digital transformation, improved public services, investment and better living conditions.

At the same time, speakers repeatedly emphasized the importance of developing a sustainable, long-term national energy strategy. While electricity imports and regional power cooperation can provide important short- and medium-term solutions, there was a strong call for South Sudan to prioritize the development of its own generation capacity, particularly through the construction of Fula Dam, as a strategic long-term solution to the country's energy needs.

The launch of the Nimule Electrification Project therefore represents an important step in South Sudan's journey toward expanded electricity access. It also demonstrates the value of regional cooperation, public-private partnership and collaboration between national institutions, local authorities and host communities.

With the project now operational, stakeholders have a shared responsibility to protect the infrastructure, ensure its sustainability and maximize its economic and social benefits. For Nimule, the expectation is that improved access to electricity will create new opportunities for businesses, enhance public services, support digital systems and contribute to better livelihoods.

Ultimately, the message emerging from the launch was clear: reliable electricity is not an end in itself, but a critical foundation for progress. The Nimule Electrification Project is therefore aptly captured by its theme—“Power Behind Progress.”
