Court adjourns again as Machar’s legal team challenges jurisdiction
The trial of Dr. Riek Machar Teny and seven others has once again been postponed until tomorrow morning at Freedom Hall in Juba.
Dr. Machar’s legal team continues to contest the competency and jurisdiction of the Special Court presiding over the case.
Speaking to the press, Dr. Geri Raimondu, head of Machar’s defense team, described the Nasir incident as a violation of the ceasefire between the government and the SPLM-IO.
He argued that the matter should instead be investigated by the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Mechanism (CTSAMM), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the Government of South Sudan.
Dr. Raimondu insisted that the case is not a matter for the courts in the first place and should be addressed through ceasefire monitoring mechanisms.
