South Sudan, and South Africa Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Senior Presidential Envoy Hon. Adut Kiir on Tuesday met South Africa’s Amb. Mahlodi Muofhe, who reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between the two nations. He highlighted South Sudan’s strong potential in minerals, agriculture, and trade, noting the growing engagement between business communities.

Amb. Muofhe also called for improved medical tourism, saying many South Sudanese travel to South Africa for treatment and that enhanced cooperation could ease medical travel while boosting tourism in both directions.

The meeting concluded with Hon. Adut Kiir pledging that the insights shared will be translated into concrete steps to advance South Sudan’s development and deepen its partnership with South Africa, including collaboration in line with shared G20 resolutions.

16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Launched in South Sudan

The campaign, running November 25 to December 10, focuses on online harassment, cyberbullying, and digital abuse. The global theme, “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” urges safer digital spaces and accountability for perpetrators.

UN Women’s Ms. Delphine Serumaga and Hon. Lona James Elia highlighted that over 80% of women worldwide face online harassment, which mirrors offline abuse and undermines women’s confidence and participation. They called on South Sudanese women to stand up for their rights and fight all forms of violence, online and offline.

St. James Parish in Juba on Wednesday hosted 58 bishops from across South Sudan for a powerful gathering focused on strengthening church leadership.

Guided by the uplifting theme from John 16:33 — “take heart” - the meeting encouraged believers to stand firm even in times of trial and uncertainty.

Archbishop The Most Rev. Dr. Justin Badi Arama reminded the bishops that the fellowship was a moment of renewal, offering encouragement, spiritual direction, and fresh strength as they return to lead their dioceses.

Youth Policy Advocacy Training Empowers South Sudanese Youth to Shape National Policies

The Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of South Sudan, in partnership with SSNYU, Norwegian People’s Aid, Markaz Al Salam, and Building Prosperity, Cultivating Peace, recently hosted a Policy Advocacy Training for youth in Juba.

Held under the theme “Empowering Youth Voices for Effective Policy Influence in South Sudan,” the training encouraged young people from across the country to actively participate in shaping policies that affect their lives. Government officials urged youth to seize such opportunities to ensure their voices are heard in national decision-making.

The program, led by policy analyst Bob James Edmond, equips participants with skills in policy analysis, lobbying, negotiation, and drafting policy briefs. It also seeks to amplify youth voices on key bills still under consideration in the South Sudanese parliament.

Over forty young people have participated so far, discussing critical issues including access to education, waste management, the proposed 10% youth budget, and youth representation in government. Edmond noted that the training complements the recently passed South Sudan Youth Development Policy, which emphasizes stronger youth engagement in governance.
