The Pakam Section of the Agaar Dinka - Part 7: Akorkor community
_______________________________________________
The Story of the Akorkor Community
The Akorkor community was the last group to join the larger Pakam Community. Their roots trace back to the Panyar people, with whom they once lived in a place called Akorkor.
One night, something unexpected happened. The other Panyar clans decided to migrate eastward from Rumbek but they didnโt tell everyone. When morning came, five families woke up to find that the rest of their community had quietly left them behind. Hurt and confused, they said to one another, โIf there had been danger or death during the night, they would have left us to die in our sleep.โ This moment of betrayal deeply affected them.
Rather than follow the group that had abandoned them, these five families made a bold decision. They turned north and began a new journey, heading toward Pakam.
When they arrived in Pakam, they were asked who they were and where they had come from. They simply replied, โWe are the people from Akorkor.โ And with those words, a new chapter began. From that day forward, they were known as the Akorkor community, a name that honors both the place they came from and the turning point that shaped their identity....................................................................................
