Residents Forced to Carry Deceased on Their Heads Due to Impassable Roads in Aweil South
Kongder Dut Jok, Aweil South County , Residents of Kongder Dut Jok in Aweil South County are enduring severe hardships caused by poor road infrastructure and limited access to healthcare services. The situation has escalated to the point where families are forced to carry the bodies of their deceased loved ones to burial sites due to impassable roads.
The community, home to hundreds of households, relies on a single Primary Health Care Center (PHCC) located in Akhac, which is insufficient to meet the growing healthcare needs of the population.
Speaking to Aweil S Media, community member Martin Kuel highlighted the urgent need for government intervention. He cited the recent case of Aunty Kuei Wek Deng Yai, who passed away at Malek-alel PHCC. Due to the lack of accessible roads, her relatives were compelled to carry her body on a local bed to reach the burial site.
The Kongder Dut Jok community is facing immense challenges. As we mourn the passing of Aunty Kuei, we are painfully reminded of the need for better road infrastructure and improved healthcare services,β said Kuel.
He called on both the state and national governments to prioritize road construction projects to enhance connectivity, enable timely medical assistance, and improve the overall living conditions of residents.
