They told you the story of human evolution started in Europe. But what if one tiny African child proved them wrong?
Imagine this.
It's 1924. A group of miners in South Africa blast open a limestone quarry. Hidden inside a rock is the skull of a child no older than four years old. To most people, it's just another strange fossil.
But to one scientist, it would become the discovery that shook the scientific world.

Why were so many scientists determined NOT to believe it?
Because at the time, many of the world's leading experts believed something very different. They believed humanity's earliest ancestors came from Europe—or perhaps Asia. Africa wasn't even considered a serious possibility by many of them.
Then came the Taung Child.
When anatomist Raymond Dart studied the skull, he noticed something extraordinary. The brain was small, about the size of a chimpanzee's. Yet the skull told another story.
The hole where the spinal cord enters the skull was underneath the head—not at the back like in apes.
That meant this child probably walked upright.
Think about that.
For decades, scientists had argued that humans first became intelligent, developed bigger brains, and then began walking on two legs.
The Taung Child turned that belief upside down.
It suggested that our ancestors learned to walk upright before evolving large brains.
That wasn't just a new idea.
It completely challenged the accepted story of human evolution.
But here's where the debate begins.
Was the evidence rejected because it was weak...
