3 KILLED IN WAU TOWN: POLICE REPORT
Three individuals were gunned down last night in Wau town, Eastern Bank Suburb, in what authorities are describing as a targeted criminal act against a family.
This marks the second tragedy within a week, following the recent attack on Monday in Tharkueng Payam of Jur River County, which claimed the lives of more than 20 people.
Speaking at a press conference this morning at the state police headquarters in Wau town, the state acting police commissioner, Major General James Simon Yasi, reported that he was informed of the incident at around 12:00 AM.
“At around 12:00 AM, I received a report about an incident in Eastern Bank where three young men were killed,” stated Yasi. “The victims have been identified as Agieu Mading Ring, Mading Mading Ring, and Chan Ameth Mawien.”
Yasi explained that upon receiving the information, the police and other joint organized forces were promptly dispatched to the scene. “We promptly dispatched police and joint organized forces to search the entire area. If anything is detected, it will be revealed during the investigation,” stated Yasi.
The police chief vowed to put an end to such violence within the town and the state as a whole. “These incidents must cease in the town and throughout the state because they exacerbate insecurity, which should not be happening. We thank God for helping the people so that such incidents can be stopped,” he added.
Yasi clarified that those responsible for the attack were not in confrontation with the local community or the army. “There was no confrontation between civilians and the army. However, there were criminals responsible for the killings. As I mentioned, we immediately dispatched forces to the area during the incident, and the motive behind the attack will be investigated,” he added.
When asked about a potential connection between this attack and the Monday incident in Tharkueng, Yasi clarified that this is a criminal attack, similar to other criminal activities that can occur in any town.
“I cannot confirm that this crime is connected to the Tharkueng incident. No, but in any place or town, there are criminals. We avoid making speculative connections to unclear incidents that could create problems for civilians. However, as I mentioned earlier, the investigation will uncover the truth,” he stated.
Yasi emphasized the stability of the security situation this morning and urged against generalizing the incident to other social aspects. “I want to make it clear that the incident in Eastern Bank is an individual crime, and I cannot associate it with a specific group,” he added.
