The good life isn’t about riches or status.
It’s about being a good family man, a good family person, and having true friends.

That’s it. That’s the whole secret.

No one is better than anyone else because of money or privilege.

At the end of the day, we’re all in the same boat — just trying to live, love, and matter.

South Sudan’s Ambassador to India, Lumumba Mekelele, has died in New Delhi after a short illness, his family confirmed Friday.

Mekelele, 63, passed away around 6 p.m. local time on July 31, according to his elder brother George Mekelele, who spoke to local broadcaster Eye Radio.

“He was 63 years old. He died yesterday around 6 p.m. His age is 63 years because he's my younger brother,” George said.

Lumumba Mekelele was appointed as ambassador to India in mid-2024 and presented his credentials to Indian President Droupadi Murmu in July of the same year. He had previously represented South Sudan as ambassador to Belgium.

A respected diplomat, Mekelele was among South Sudan’s first ambassadors after the country gained independence in 2011.

His body is expected to be flown back to Juba for burial, as funeral preparations continue. Family and friends are currently gathering at his home in Gudele Block 8, near Christian University in the capital.

The African Union called on regional countries not to recognize the parallel government established in Sudan.

The African Union announced on Wednesday that it would not recognize the parallel government in Sudan and called on its member states to follow suit.

In parallel with the civil war that has been going on for more than two years in Sudan, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Saturday that it had formed a government and appointed a prime minister.

The African Union Peace and Security Council called on "African Union member states and the international community to reject the partition of Sudan and not recognize the so-called parallel government, which would have serious consequences for peace efforts and the country's existential future."

Kenyan President William Ruto and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni have come together to speak out against the trade restrictions that continue to hinder business and movement across East Africa. The two leaders say these barriers are not only hurting farmers and traders but also working against the very purpose of regional unity.

Speaking during a recent visit, both presidents agreed it’s time to remove the non-tariff barriers—such as Kenya’s restrictions on Uganda’s maize, milk, poultry, and sugar—that have created tension between the two countries. They instructed their ministers of trade to urgently resolve these issues and ensure that goods and services can move more freely across borders.

> “We must turn our borders from barriers into bridges,” President Ruto said, emphasizing the need for economic cooperation across the region.

> President Museveni added, “Retaliation is not the solution. These barriers are punishing our farmers and going against the spirit of Pan-Africanism.”

In a major breakthrough, the two countries also resolved a long-standing dispute over oil imports. Uganda will now be allowed to bring in petroleum through Kenya’s port of Mombasa via its national company, UNOC.

Their meeting sent a strong message to other East African leaders: for the region to grow, unity and open trade must come first.

This joint effort is being seen as a step forward in strengthening the East African Community and paving the way for deeper cooperation under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
