Two people, including a flight instructor and a student pilot, have been killed after a small aircraft crashed during a routine training flight in southern Kenya.
The aircraft, operated by the Kenya School of Flying, crashed on Friday morning in the Kipeto area of Kajiado West, near the Kipeto Wind Power Project.
Kajiado West Sub-County Police Commander Maureen Kuto confirmed that two people were on board. The student pilot died at the scene, while the flight instructor succumbed to injuries while being taken to Kajiado Referral Hospital.
Preliminary reports indicate that poor visibility caused by heavy morning mist may have contributed to the crash.
Police said the pilot attempted to make an emergency landing after encountering poor visibility, but the aircraft crashed in the hilly area of Kipeto.
Emergency response teams and security officers were deployed to the scene, where the aircraft was extensively damaged.
Police and aviation authorities have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The cause of the crash has not been formally determined, and investigators are expected to examine the wreckage and other available evidence as the inquiry continues.
