ONE OF OUR BIGGEST MISTAKES IS FOCUSING TOO MUCH ON POLITICS WHEN CREATING ADMINISTRATIVE LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT

When we discuss the creation of new administrative levels of government, our attention often focuses on political considerations. However, one of the most important questions we should ask is: Can the proposed system be economically and administratively sustained?

Before creating any new level of government, comprehensive feasibility studies should be conducted by qualified experts in public administration, economics, governance and related fields.

Such studies should consider, among other factors:

1. Geographical size — Is the proposed administrative area manageable and accessible?

2. Population and diversity — Is there a sufficient and diverse population to justify the administrative structure?

3. Revenue sources — What sustainable sources of local revenue are available to finance government operations and public services?

4. Boundaries and access points — Are the boundaries clearly defined, and are there practical entry and exit points that support administration, trade and movement?

5. Qualified human resources — Are there enough competent and qualified cadres to run the affairs of the government effectively and efficiently?

6. Long-term sustainability — Can the system continue functioning without creating an excessive financial burden on the national economy?

These and many other considerations should form the basis for creating any level of government.

When political considerations come before economic and administrative feasibility, we risk establishing institutions that may struggle to deliver services, sustain government operations or meet their financial obligations.

This is not an argument against decentralization or bringing government closer to the people. It is an argument for responsible, evidence-based and sustainable governance.

South Sudan belongs to all of us. We therefore need patience, careful planning and decisions guided by the long-term interests of the country rather than short-term political calculations.

Let us build administrative structures that our economy can support and our people can benefit from.

A woman falls into oil waste’s pool

Yes, Sunday morning in Unity Oil field, Unity State, a woman accidentally fell into a highly hazardous oil waste site. It was believed that she slipped off the d**e where she was walking on and accidentally fell into the pool.

The spectators in the scene said the woman was not able to speak afterwards, raising many questions whether she was affected by the oil waste or she was experiencing medical conditions before the incident.

More than 1,000 Primary Eight (P8) candidates in Torit Municipality are sitting for mock examinations ahead of their final examinations.

The mock exams are being conducted from Monday to Wednesday this week, allowing candidates to assess their preparedness and gain confidence ahead of the final examinations.

Major General Atem inspects Giada Barracks

Juba - The newly appointed commander of the Tiger Division, Major General Atem Salva Kiir, has inspected the Giada military barracks in Juba after taking over command of the elite army unit on Wednesday.

According to photos shared online, General Atem inspected various facilities at the barracks as part of his tour of duty.

General Atem, the son of President Salva Kiir, also commands the National Security Service Special Forces.
