Re: My Appeal to Aweil People in South Sudan and Diasporas.
TEN STRATEGIC ACTIONS TO DEFEND THE RIGHTS, DIGNITY, AND INTERESTS OF THE AWEIL COMMUNITY
A Call to Aweil Sons and Daughters in South Sudan and Across the World.
The Aweil community has made enormous sacrifices for South Sudan through its contributions to nation-building, peace, security, education, public service, and economic development. Yet many members of our community feel increasingly concerned about incidents of discrimination, unfair treatment, public insults, political marginalization, arbitrary arrests, and the absence of a unified response to challenges affecting our people.
This is not a call for division. It is a call for unity, justice, dignity, and peaceful advocacy.
1. Unite Beyond Clans, Politics, and Personal Differences
The first defense of any community is its unity. Aweil sons and daughters must stand together regardless of political affiliation, clan identity, religion, generation, or place of residence. Division weakens our collective voice and exposes our people to further marginalization.
2. Establish a Permanent Community Advocacy and Legal Defense Committee
Create a professional body composed of lawyers, human rights advocates, community leaders, and respected elders to monitor cases involving arrests, detentions, discrimination, and violations of the rights of Aweil citizens. Every citizen deserves due process and equal protection under the law.
3. Demand Equal Justice and Rule of Law
The community should advocate for a justice system that treats all South Sudanese equally. No citizen should be imprisoned without lawful cause, denied due process, or targeted because of community identity, political affiliation, or family background.
4. Create a Rapid Response Network
Develop a coordinated communication network to respond quickly when members of the community face unjust treatment, humanitarian emergencies, security concerns, or legal challenges. Information must be verified, accurate, and handled responsibly.
5. Strengthen Community Representation in National Affairs
Encourage qualified sons and daughters of Aweil to participate in public service, leadership, diplomacy, education, business, and civil society so the community remains actively engaged in shaping the future of South Sudan.
6. Protect the Reputation and Dignity of the Community
Public insults, misinformation, and negative stereotypes should be challenged through facts, professionalism, dialogue, and positive representation. The best response to defamation is truth, achievement, and unity.
7. Mobilize the Global Aweil Diaspora
Aweil communities across Africa, North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia should establish stronger networks to support education, legal advocacy, economic development, and humanitarian assistance for their people.
8. Invest in Youth Leadership and Civic Education
The next generation must be prepared to lead. Youth should be equipped with education, leadership skills, civic responsibility, conflict resolution skills, and a commitment to national unity and community service.
9. Promote Peaceful Engagement with Other Communities
Aweil's future prosperity depends on constructive relationships with all communities in South Sudan. We must reject tribal hostility while firmly defending our rights, dignity, and legitimate interests through peaceful and lawful means.
10. Adopt a Community Declaration of Unity and Protection
Aweil sons and daughters should formally declare their commitment to defending one another against injustice, supporting victims of discrimination, promoting peace, advancing development, and protecting the dignity of the community through lawful and nonviolent action.
My Final Appeal
I appeal to all Aweil sons and daughters in South Sudan and throughout the world to rise above division and stand together in defense of justice, dignity, equality, and community progress. Let us support one another, speak with one voice when our people face injustice, and work tirelessly to build a stronger, more united, and more prosperous future.
The future of Aweil will not be determined by those who criticize or undermine us. It will be determined by our collective unity, our commitment to justice, our investment in future generations, and our unwavering dedication to the wellbeing of our people and our nation.
Let us stand togetherโnot against othersโbut for our rights, our dignity, our development, and our future.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dr. Deng Diing Diing
