Al Watan Founder Michael Christopher Arrested in Juba

Michael Christopher, founder of Al Watan Arabic newspaper, was arrested in Juba on Wednesday, according to his family. The reason for his arrest remains unclear. Christopher is known for his outspoken Arabic-language Facebook Live broadcasts on regional affairs, including the conflict in Sudan, and for his public support of RSF leader Mohammed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti).

Minister Ateny Wek Ateny Presses MTN to Justify High Tariffs, Calls for Lower Charges

Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Ateny Wek Ateny, has urged MTN South Sudan to provide a technical explanation for what he described as excessively high service tariffs in the country.

The minister raised the concern on Wednesday during meetings with several visitors, including the MTN South Sudan CEO and Huawei’s Country Representative, who called to congratulate him on his recent appointment.

Ateny said the ministry will soon convene a formal technical session with MTN to discuss possible measures the company can take to reduce its charges.

He stressed that internet and data costs in South Sudan remain “very expensive,” leaving many citizens unable to afford reliable communication services.

Governor Adil Meets Influential Artists, Pledges Support for Creative Peace Efforts

The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has met with a group of influential South Sudanese artists and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the country’s creative industry.

During the meeting held Tuesday in Juba, Governor Adil praised the musicians for their role in promoting peace and social cohesion, urging them to continue using their talents to unite communities and raise public awareness.

He emphasized that the creative sector remains a powerful tool for shaping positive social values and strengthening unity across the state.
