SSPDF Helicopter Conducts Surprise Airstrike in Gogrial East County, AwutWut Village

Today, 05.06.2025, Authorities in Gogrial East County have confirmed a surprise airstrike conducted this morning by the South Sudan People's Defense Forces (SSPDF) in the AwutWut area. The incident has shocked locals and raised concerns about the motives behind the attack.

Hon. Marko Garang Anyar the Commissioner of Gogrial East, speaking to an online Media, reported that the airstrike targeted the Atayang area of Toch East Payam, resulting in injuries to one individual and the destruction of several houses. The unexpected nature of the bombardment has left the community bewildered and seeking answers.

"We are not yet aware of the purpose of the bombing, but we are communicating with high authorities to get more details about the incident," Hon. Garang stated. The local government is actively working to gather information and assess the situation, as residents express their fears and uncertainties following the attack.

However, Efforts to reach out to the SSPDF spokesperson for the comment were unsuccessful.

NBGs' government to hold consultative meeting with MPs, social group leaders

The government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has announced a plan to convene a one-day consultative meeting in Juba with representatives of NBG in R-TNLA, Community leaders, Traditional chiefs, Elders, Intellectuals, Youth's, Women's and Students' leaders

According to the Governor Press Unit, the meeting is aimed at addressing current pressing issues facing the State and general state affairs.

The meeting, scheduled for 7th June at Palm Africa Hotel, is expected to be chaired by the State Governor, Simon Ober Mawut.

Dr. Machar ally Sarah Cleto takes oath as Health Minister despite being called to decline

Sarah Cleto Rial, a top ally of Dr. Riek Machar, has finally changed her mind and taken the oath as Health Minister before President Salva Kiir.
After being relieved of her position as Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Sarah left the country and later protested Dr. Machar's detention.

Two teachers collapsed from hunger while teaching in Western Equatoria State, Yambio

Two teachers at a government-run primary school in Western Equatoria State have collapsed while teaching, reportedly due to hunger.

The incident occurred on Monday at Renzi Primary School in Tambura County, according to the County Education Director, Mathew Kassiano.

Kassiano said the teachers began sweating heavily before losing consciousness during their lessons. "The first one fainted before finishing his class and was rushed to hospital. After examination, doctors found no illness - only hunger. He was revived with tea and went home," he said.

A second teacher reportedly collapsed shortly afterwards. Kassiano said both teachers, along with pupils at the school, had been relying on wild mangoes as their only food source. "Now even the mangoes are finished," he added.

The education director is calling for the immediate introduction of a school feeding programme to support both teachers and learners.

Meanwhile, Western Equatoria State’s Minister of Education, Grace Apollo, has confirmed the incident and urged the national government to take swift action.

“Our teachers are suffering,” she said. “We are told money is available in the bank, but when we go there, the bank managers say otherwise. I am appealing to the government, if there is money allocated to the education sector, let it be transferred directly. Figures cannot help us, let them send the money direct to us instead of sending figures.”

Gov’t to close SSP 4.2 trillion 2024/2025 budget, call for peoples’ views for 2025/2026 budget

South Sudan government is set to closed the national Budget for 2024/2025 at an amount of 4.2 trillion South Sudan pounds in July which is next month and call on public to express their views for 2025-2026 budget which is in the pipeline.

In November 2024, South Sudan Parliament approved National Budget for 2024/2025 at an amount of 4.2 trillion South Sudan pounds.
These budgets came with introduction of new taxes that suddenly increase fees and prices in the market.

In order to incorporate public views in the Budget for 2025/2026 expected to be discuss in this month (June), South Sudan government has opened up to the Civil Society to engage the public to express their views.

The Executive Director for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) Edmund Yakani has called on Members of the public to express their views on how the 2025/2026 budget will look like.

“I would like to take this opportunity to ask Citizens who want to make an observation or want to raise their opinions on the content of our financial year 2025-2026” Yakani said
“We have the copies in our office come and submit to us your opinion as a citizen on the financial year bill 2025-2026 and we shall compile it and present it during public hearing” he appealed

He added that such views will be use by the civil society during the public hearing of the budget expected to be organized by the parliament so soon.

How the Country’s budget gets prepared
1. Ministries, commissions and Agencies submit their estimated budgets in figures to the Budget drafting committee in the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

2. The Budget drafting committee add all the figures and come up with single, the total amount as the estimate of the country’s budget.

3. The budget committee submit the figures to Parliamentary committee on Finance and Planning to deliberate on it before tabling it in the National Asse
