The South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) has ordered all Lou-Nuer forces awaiting integration into the army and other organized forces to report to designated assembly areas in Nyirol County, Jonglei State, within 72 hours.

The order was issued by SSPDF Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Santino Deng Wol.

According to SSPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen. L*l Ruai Koang, forces deployed around Waat have been directed to report to the Waat Assembly Area, while forces operating around Langkien are to report to the assembly area there.

The SSPDF says the directive comes ahead of the arrival of a screening and integration committee. However, the statement did not specify when the committee will arrive or how many forces are expected to report.

Maj. Gen. L*l Ruai Koang described the directive as a β€œclear order for execution.”

South Sudan’s Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) is considering proposed amendments to the National Elections Act that would require the First Vice President and other Vice Presidents to be removed from their positions three months before the scheduled election date.

TNLA Acting Spokesperson Oliver Mori Benjamin said the provision is contained in the National Elections Act, 2012 (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which has now been tabled before Parliament for consideration.

The proposed legislation would also allow the incumbent President to remain in office with all powers provided under the Constitution during the election period.

The proposal comes as South Sudan prepares for elections scheduled for December 22, 2026, while the current transitional roadmap sets September 22 as the date for dissolution of the transitional government.

TNLA Acting Spokesperson Oliver Mori Benjamin says the National Elections Act, 2012 (Amendment) Bill, 2026, has been tabled before the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA), beginning the parliamentary process to amend South Sudan’s electoral law.

According to Mori, the proposed bill contains two chapters and 17 sections, including provisions on the executive and the composition of parliament during and after elections.

The bill proposes a 332-member elected parliament, with 50% of seats allocated to geographical constituencies, 35% to women and 15% to party lists. It also provides that the incumbent President would remain in office with constitutional powers during the election period.

Mori said the proposed amendments would require the President to remove the First Vice President and other Vice Presidents three months before the election date.

The bill comes as South Sudan prepares for elections scheduled for December 22, 2026, while the transitional government is due to be dissolved on September 22 under the current roadmap.

Dut Majokdit, a member of the SPLM-IO Political Bureau and former Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, has rejected the planned inter-party political dialogue in Juba, arguing that excluding SPLM-IO Chairman and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar will prevent the process from addressing South Sudan’s political and security crisis.

In a statement dated September 16, 2026, Majokdit questioned the postponement of the inter-party dialogue, which has now been scheduled for September 24. He argued that the process should include the principal parties to the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement (R-ARCSS) and said the agreement was negotiated and endorsed by the parties whose representatives signed it.

Majokdit said Dr. Riek Machar, as SPLM/A-IO Chairman and a principal signatory to the peace agreement, should not be excluded from discussions concerning the country’s political future. Majokdit also questioned the political and legal arrangements surrounding the transition as South Sudan prepares for elections scheduled for December 22, 2026, arguing that outstanding political and security issues must be addressed before the country proceeds toward the polls.

At least nine people have been killed and more than 60 others injured following clashes between members of the Ngok Dinka and Misseriya communities at the Amiet joint market in the disputed Abyei area on Tuesday evening.

Ngok Dinka Paramount Chief Bulabek Deng Koul said nine deaths had been confirmed, while the full number of injured was still being established from both sides.

The violence reportedly followed an attack on Ngok Dinka traders on Monday evening that left one person injured. On Tuesday morning, a Misseriya man was reportedly found with his throat cut, further escalating tensions.

Abyei Information Minister Yohana Akol said 63 Ngok Dinka people are receiving treatment at an MSF hospital. He said the latest violence began after a dispute involving traders at the joint market and lasted from approximately 6pm to 8pm.

The latest clashes add to longstanding tensions between the Ngok Dinka and Misseriya communities over grazing, water and land. Abyei remains a disputed territory between Sudan and South Sudan, with the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) deployed to help protect civilians and maintain security.
