CHAMPION PROFILE, AJANG GARANG ATAN aka MAPUORDIT

Ajang Garang Atan, famously known as Ajang Mapuordit, is a legendary traditional wrestling icon from Cuei-keer, Abii, Bor County, Jonglei State.

He rose to legendary status in South Sudanese wrestling — a sport that holds a special place in the national psyche, especially among the Dinka Bor, Mundari and Aliap communities.

Historic Moment:
On August 8, 2011, at Wutcuei playground, Bor, Ajang Mapuordit opened the famous inter-clan tournament for Abii against Abuodit of Jalle. He defeated his long-time rival Mayen Reech Akuak in less than 3 minutes — a rival who had challenged him since 2009. That day, Abii won 5-1.

His name is still mentioned among the greatest of all time alongside Majok Jok, Deng Adol, and Muor ci Kueng.

When did Mapuordit start wrestling, let us meet in the comments section.
