President Kiir travels to Ethiopia for bilateral talks

President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his accompanying delegation departed this morning, Friday, for Addis Ababa, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, for a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

“This visit to Addis Ababa is a continuation of the ongoing bilateral engagements between the Republic of South Sudan and Ethiopia, reflecting the shared commitment of both leaders to deepen cooperation and strengthen ties,” President Kiir’s Press Unit report.

Justice in South Sudan is not dead.

Juba Court sentences 5 officers to 24 years in prison

Five members of the organised forces have been sentenced to 24 years in prison each after a court at Juba National Prison found them guilty of murdering a senior government official, judicial authorities said.

The court convicted the five over the killing of Konty Okot, a senior official at the Ministry of Petroleum, who was shot dead in January.

A sixth defendant was sentenced to five years in prison.

The court also ordered the dismissal of all six from service and directed them to pay the cost of the weapons used in the crime.

Director of Moral Orientation in the National Police Service, Brigadier General Kwajock Dominic, said the ruling demonstrates that members of the organised forces are subject to the same legal standards as civilians.

“This shows there is no difference between civilians and organised forces before the law,” he said.

Okot was killed after his vehicle was sprayed with bullets at a security checkpoint in Juba by individuals reported to be uniformed personnel.

Disregarding the fake information circulating on social media that the legitimate commissioner of Akobo County were captured and disarmed.

He was successfully arrived yesterday evening in Lilkuongole County, GPAA at 3:30pm and accompanied by his teams with all their weapons including some PKMs .
