It cab be seen hope South Sudanese have poured out criticism and ridicule directed at Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth across social media, particularly over accusations that he has become an excessive sycophant of President Salva Kiir Mayardit. Lol is often seen aggressively attacking anyone who expresses even slight disagreement with the President.

There is nothing inherently wrong with defending the President or supporting his policies. However, Lol appears to take his defence to an extreme, sometimes in a manner that creates the impression that he is driven more by personal interests than genuine political loyalty. By the end of the day, such conduct may do more to make President Kiir unpopular than to strengthen his political support. His Nuer people get annoyed at President Salva because of Lol who justified bombing the Nuer than the UPDF that was carrying it out.

Not everyone who disagrees with the President hates him. Many South Sudanese simply believe that there is room for improvement and constructive criticism. But when Lol responds to every criticism with insults and attacks, he risks pushing people who might otherwise remain supporters or neutral observers into outright opposition. In the process, the President may lose potential allies such as Mama Rebecca for the benefit of an individual who appears more concerned with personal political survival.

President Salva Kiir could arguably gain more supporters if he distanced himself from figures whose public conduct is increasingly becoming a political liability.

Lol even went as far as declaring his tribe to be the “Kiir Mayardit tribe.” This raises a fundamental political question: how can one effectively lobby for political support or a position while alienating the very people whose numbers and influence could strengthen one's political standing?

It increasingly appears that some of these calculated political moves may be connected to his desire to return to the Ministry of Petroleum.

President Salva Kiir should seriously reconsider the political cost of keeping such a liability close to him. Leaders are often judged not only by their own actions but also by the people who claim to speak and fight on their behalf.

If Lol continues to insult communities, attack constructive critics and alienate potential supporters, he risks becoming an embarrassment and a liability rather than an asset to the President.

For the sake of the President's public image and political support, President Kiir should consider relieving Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth of his current political role. He doesn't understand public service, he is actually looking for where money is and a minister for congratulations and visiting rich offices affairs.
