Some traditional practices should be banned—not because they are useless - but because they harm people. In some Dinka and Mundari communities, girls have crafted elephant tusks fixed to their hands at puberty to enhance beauty, while young men undergo similar rites. These practices often lead to gangrene, loss of fingers or hands, and even death. Harmful cultural practices, including ear piercing, scarification, and tooth removal, must be stopped, even with government intervention.

The Real-Sudan People Liberation Movement/Army Forward (R-SPLM/A F) has issued a strong condemnation of the arrest of activist William Deng Dut Koor at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Wednesday. In an official statement, the opposition party's General Secretariat called for the immediate release of Deng, citing concerns over his safety and well-being.

The statement, released by the R-SPLM/A F, expressed outrage over the circumstances surrounding Deng's arrest, describing it as an "unjust and unacceptable act" perpetrated by the government or individuals acting with impunity. The party emphasized that Deng's arrest is a clear example of the government's crackdown on dissenting voices and opposition figures in Sudan.

Furthermore, the R-SPLM/A F has reached out to international organizations, including human rights groups and diplomatic missions, urging them to intervene in the matter and seek a swift resolution. The party's appeal to the international community highlights the growing concerns over human rights abuses and the shrinking civic space in Sudan.

The condemnation comes amid ongoing tensions between the government and opposition groups in Sudan, with many activists and opposition leaders facing harassment, intimidation, and arrest. The R-SPLM/A F has vowed to continue advocating for Deng's release and for the protection of human rights in Sudan.

Angelo Ngot, a community leader in Twic Mayardit, Juba, has confirmed that government critic Deng Dut Koor was arrested. Speaking to the media, Angelo said Deng was brought to Juba from Dubai by Col. Mike Mike, also known as Anguei Mayom, is the Tiger Division Special Forces commander. However, the circumstances under which Mike Mike travelled to Dubai to arrest a South Sudanese citizen abroad weren't explained.

Angelo said Deng was safe and that he, along with other Twic community leaders, was allowed to see him. According to Angelo, Col. Mike Mike assured them Deng would be handed over to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for a civil trial, noting that Deng is a civilian.

Angelo added that he'd previously advised Deng to avoid personal attacks, including criticism directed at the president. Although Deng initially agreed, he later resumed such attacks. Angelo said Deng seemed to be in a good mood during their meeting.

Angelo was supposed to meet Deng again today after the expected handover to the IGP. However, when they went to the IGP's office, they met the Deputy IGP, who told them to return on Saturday to see Deng.
