REVEALED: GGABA MURDER SUSPECT A U.S. CITIZEN, ALLEGEDLY KILLED HIS STEP BROTHER IN 2017, CASE REPORTED AT KWANIA POLICE BUT WALKED SCOT-FREE
A chilling new twist has emerged in the gruesome Ggaba daycare massacre — the prime suspect, Christopher Okello Onyim, is a U.S. citizen who spent over 20 years living and working in America before returning to Uganda under unclear circumstances.
Police investigations reveal that Onyim came back to Uganda in November 2025 after decades in the United States, where he worked as a nursing assistant with a specialised homecare service in Northern Virginia.
Detectives are now probing whether he may have been deported, as questions swirl around his sudden return.
Upon arrival, Onyim reportedly tried to live quietly at his parents’ home in Bunga, a suburb of Kampala, before relocating to Nwoya District to pursue farming — a decision that allegedly put him at odds with his father, who had initially pushed him to remain in the U.S. with his siblings.
Sources say Onyim had long expressed a desire to return home and farm, but his father resisted. Determined, he reportedly found his own way back to Uganda.
After a brief stay in Kampala — in an apartment said to have been paid for by an embassy — his father eventually took him to Nwoya, where they set up a family farm.
However, his stay there was short-lived. Onyim later returned to Kampala and rented another apartment in Kyanja just weeks before the deadly attack.
THE MURDER PLAN
Investigators now believe the attack may have been carefully planned.
Days before the killings, Onyim reportedly visited the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre posing as a parent seeking admission for a child.
On the day of the attack, he allegedly paid school fees of sh180,000 via mobile money — a move detectives believe was meant to avoid suspicion.
He is also said to have purchased knives and padlocks prior to the incident.
In a horrifying sequence, Onyim allegedly locked the school gate and administration block before carrying out the brutal attack on the toddlers inside.
The victims have been identified as:
👉 Ryan Odeke (1.5 years)
👉 Keisha Otim (2 years)
👉 Gideon Eteko (2.5 years)
👉 Ignatius Sserunyange (2.5 years)
The nation has been left in shock over the senseless killing of such young, innocent lives.
DISTURBING PAST & MENTAL HEALTH QUESTIONS
As investigations deepen, detectives are also probing Onyim’s mental health and troubling past.
Reports suggest he may have previously been linked to a similar violent incident involving his stepbrothers in northern Uganda in 2017 — a case that remains shrouded in mystery after he reportedly walked free, with the matter filed at Keania Police.
Sources further claim there could be a history of mental health complications within the family, possibly linked to sickle cell-related conditions — though this remains under investigation.
Detectives say the suspect’s actions point to possible premeditation, noting that his earlier visit to the school may have been a calculated move to study the environment before striking.
“He came earlier to observe how the place operates,” a source revealed.
INVESTIGATIONS ONGOING
Onyim is currently in police custody as authorities work to uncover the full motive behind the attack and piece together his movements leading up to the tragedy.
Police say several key questions remain unanswered — including why he returned to Uganda and what exactly triggered the brutal killings.
The Ggaba massacre now stands as one of the most horrifying crimes in recent memory, leaving families shattered and a nation demanding answers.
