Meet Rt. Hon. Ann Tuna Richard β Youngest Speaker in the History of Western Equatoria State Transitional Legislative Assembly
Western Equatoria State has entered the history books with the appointment of Rt. Hon. Ann Tuna Richard as the youngest Speaker of the Transitional State Legislative Assembly.
Her rise marks a milestone not only for youth but also for women in leadership across South Sudan.
πΉ Early Journey in Leadership
Ann Tuna first gained prominence as Chairperson of the Peace and Reconciliation Commission in Western Equatoria State, where she worked to foster dialogue and unity during a difficult period.
When the 32 states were created, she served as State Minister of Health in Amadi State and also took on the role of Member of Parliament.
Her ability to balance executive and legislative duties underscored her growing influence in governance.
πΉ Service in Western Equatoria
After South Sudan reverted to 10 states, she was appointed State Minister of Road Transport and Bridges in Western Equatoria, a position she held for nearly five years. In this role, she championed projects to improve infrastructure and connectivity.
πΉ Historic Appointment as Speaker
Her leadership journey reached new heights when she was appointed Speaker of the Assembly, officially sworn in under the leadership of WES Governor H.E Barrister James Al-Teib.
She succeeded Wakila Charles Abdu Ngamunde, becoming the youngest Speaker in the stateβs history.
