Media Mentors Network Empowers Journalists on Health Reporting

This week, our media trainer, Juma Maidodo—who also serves as a Communication officer with the Program Management Unit at the National Ministry of Health—was tasked by UJOSS to lead powerful sessions on child health and social and behavior change (SBC) during a media training in Torit.

The workshop, organized by Union of Journalists of South Sudan(UJOSS) in partnership with the Ministry of Health and supported by UNICEF, brought together 25 journalists from Eastern Equatoria to sharpen their skills in ethical and impactful health reporting.

Juma helped participants unpack key issues around child survival, health-seeking behaviors, and how journalists can bridge the gap between public health messages and community understanding.

He also shared insights on the Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP) and the broader health communication and funding landscape in South Sudan.

At Media Mentors Network, we believe journalism is not just about reporting—it’s about making people’s lives better through informed storytelling. We’re proud to contribute to building a media culture that puts public health at the center.
