Government to close schools due to extreme heat

The government has ordered schools to close and introduced a shift system for public servants for over two weeks due to the ongoing heat stress in the country. The directive, effective Friday, follows reports of more than 12 students collapsing daily in Juba.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Vice President Josephine Joseph Lagu, based on reports from the Ministries of Health, Environment, and Education. Environment Minister Josephine Napwon Cosmos warned citizens about the dangers of the heatwave, while health and education officials stressed that the move prioritizes public safety.

SSPM dismisses Agriculture Minister, Hussein Abdelbagi over misconduct

The South Sudan Patriotic Movement (SSPM) has officially dismissed the former Vice President for Services Cluster, currently, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol from his position as Acting Deputy Chairman and permanently expelled him from the party, citing gross misconduct and constitutional violations.

In an official order issued by SSPM Chairman Dr. Costello Garang Ring Lual, Mr. Akol was accused of attempting to unlawfully dismiss the Chairman, invoking a non-existent constitutional provision, assembling an unauthorized faction, and convening a private meeting in violation of the party's framework.

The order states that Mr. Akol had already been suspended on November 23, 2024, pending an investigation into his alleged acts of insubordination. Following the investigation, it was determined that his actions directly undermined the party’s unity, leadership, and role within the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) and the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).

Citing articles 9 and 38 of the SSPM Constitution, the Chairman exercised his authority to enforce disciplinary action, leading to Mr. Akol’s immediate removal from all party positions. The decision also invalidates any future actions or representations made by him in SSPM’s name.

“The SSPM remains committed to upholding its constitutional principles and will not tolerate any actions that undermine its integrity or stability,” the statement concluded.

Former Vice President Hussein is yet to respond to the dismissal.

𝐉𝐮𝐛𝐚, 𝟐𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓----President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called for an end to the persistent inter-communal conflicts in Warrap State and Abyei Administrative Area.

The President was speaking while swearing in the new Governor of Warrap State Gen. Magok Magok Deng and Chief Administrator of Abyei Administrative Area Charles Abyei Jok in Juba on Thursday.

The Head of State made an appeal to the community leaders residing in Juba to refrain from instigating violence back in their home areas; urging the new leaders to work in tandem to restore and promote the rule of law and peaceful co-existence among the communities.

The Chief of Defense Forces General Paul Nang Majok described the conflict in Warrap as a pandemic to the military and announced that the army is ready to intervene by disarming errant youths involved in the unrest. This, he said, is aimed at restoring peace.

Both Governor Magok Magok and Administrator Charles Abyei pledged their readiness to go home and reinforce the call for a collective effort to ensure a more peaceful society in areas under their supervision.

South Sudan loses to Algeria in Women’s AFCON Qualifiers

Bright Starlets suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat against Algeria in the first leg of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualification first round. The match took place at Juba National Stadium, where the visitors dominated to take a commanding lead in the two-legged tie.

South Sudan will now face a tough challenge in the return leg as they seek to overturn the deficit and keep their WAFCON hopes alive.

BREAKING: Fire Destroys Homes in Aweil, Northern Bahr Ghazal State (NBGs)

A fire erupted this morning in the Ayuang residential area of Aweil, Northern Bahr Ghazal, impacting over 10 households near the NRC compound.

The blaze caused extensive damage, including a vehicle and household items. UNMISS firefighters contained the fire.

This is the third fire incident in Aweil this year. Authorities are investigating the cause and assessing the damage.
