JONGLEI STATE GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES 25KM D**E REHABILITATION IN ADUAR, JALLE PAYAM; CALLS ON CITIZENS TO RETURN HOME FOR RESETTLEMENT

The Government of Jonglei State, in collaboration with United Nations partners, has officially launched the rehabilitation of a 25-kilometer d**e in Aduar, Jalle Payam, aimed at strengthening flood protection and supporting the safe return and resettlement of displaced communities.
The project focuses on repairing 21 critical weak points along the Aduar Jalle d**e, a key flood defense infrastructure that protects lives, livelihoods, and public facilities across the region. Authorities noted that any major breach along the d**e could cut off the northern parts of Jonglei State from the south, where most humanitarian and relief supplies originate.
Speaking during the launch, Hon. Justice Kuony Nyuon Kuony , State Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairperson of the Jonglei State Flood Management Committee, called upon displaced residents to return to their homes as flood conditions continue to improve.
We are encouraging the people of Jonglei State to return to their homes and begin the process of resettlement. The situation has significantly improved, and this project demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting communities from future flooding.
Hon. Manyal Riek Rial, State Minister of Roads and Bridges and Deputy Chairperson of the Jonglei State Flood Management Committee, expressed appreciation to H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Jonglei State Governor Dr. Riek G*i Kok for their continued support toward improving services and protecting vulnerable communities.
The launch of this 25-kilometer d**e rehabilitation project paves the way for UNOPS contractors to immediately begin repairs on the identified weak points. The work will restore the structural integrity of the d**e and enhance protection for communities across the area.
