The Caretaker Governor of Central Equatoria State, General Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, inspected the Kapuri Bridge on October 1 following heavy rains that caused rising water levels and disrupted movement between Kapuri and Kabu.
During the visit, Governor Jadalla assessed the condition of the crossing and the impact on schoolchildren, students, road users, businesses and access to essential services. Juba County Executive Director Alfatih Margani Agal said the rising water had submerged the temporary concrete crossing, which had been used after the previous bridge was damaged.
Heavy trucks were reportedly able to cross in the morning, while other road users faced difficulties due to the high water levels.
The flooding has raised concerns over access and mobility for local communities and renewed calls for a permanent solution to the recurring challenges at the Kapuri crossing.
The governor’s inspection provided an on-the-ground assessment as authorities respond to the effects of the heavy rains.
