Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago transferred to Mulago Hospital for treatment under military guard.

Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was transferred to Mulago Specialized Hospital on June 25, 2026, following a direct court directive aimed at managing his deteriorating health while in custody.

The Makindye Chief Magistrate's Court ordered the Uganda Prisons Service to shift Lukwago from Luzira Prison (Murchison Bay) to Mulago National Referral Hospital for urgent attention.

The court denied him bail, citing ongoing investigations and his significant public influence as a leader. He is currently facing charges of misprision of treason.

The court allowed military restricted access only to his wife, designated lawyers, and his medical team.

The Pan-African Law Chambers (PALC) says increment on South Sudan's tariffs violates administrative law and consumer protection rights.

According to the legal body, the 50% increase was imposed with minimal notice, inadequate consultation, and no cost-benefit analysis.

"South Sudan's NCA tariff hike effective June 26 may violate administrative law and consumer protection rights. Citizens have grounds to challenge this decision", the legal body says.

South Sudan is implementing a phased telecommunications tariff adjustment effective Friday, June 26, 2026, at 12:00 AM. While the National Communication Authority (NCA) clarifies that this is technically a regulated exchange rate alignment rather than an increase in base prices, consumers will experience higher out-of-pocket costs for phone calls and mobile data.
