The Trump administration has imposed new U.S. entry restrictions on citizens from 17 African countries, including South Sudan, citing security concerns.

According to a White House proclamation, the measures target nationals from 24 countries in total. The administration stated these countries have "demonstrated, persistent, and severe deficiencies in screening, vetting, and information-sharing" that pose a risk to national security and public safety.

The policy fully suspends entry for immigrants and certain non-immigrants from eight countries, and imposes partial restrictions on 16 others. Affected visa categories include B-1, B-2, F, M, and J visas.

JUBA, NOVEMBER 14, 2025 – South Sudan's Council of Ministers, in a session chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit, approved a 7 trillion South Sudanese Pound (SSP) budget for the 2025/2026 fiscal year on Friday.

The budget, which carries a projected deficit of SSP 1.5 trillion, will now be tabled before Parliament for final debate and endorsement. Information Minister Michael Makuei noted that the Ministry of Finance and Planning has committed to improving revenue collection to address the shortfall.

In addition to the budget, the Cabinet addressed several key national issues:

1. Infrastructure: A report was presented on the proposed construction of a strategic road connecting South Sudan to Ethiopia and the port of Djibouti, intended to create a new export route for crude oil.

2. Financial Integrity: The Council issued a ban on unnecessary tax and duty exemptions to curb revenue losses. It also prohibited any individual from signing loans on behalf of the government without following established legal procedures.

3. Performance: President Kiir directed all ministers to enhance the performance, efficiency, and accountability of their respective institutions.

President Salva Kiir of South Sudan has fired Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel from his position as Vice President, according to recent reports. This move comes after Dr. Bol Mel was appointed to the role in February 2025, replacing James Wani Igga. The reasons behind his dismissal haven't been officially stated, but speculation suggests it might be related to power struggles within the ruling Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) party

Dr. Bol Mel, a prominent businessman and close ally of President Kiir, had been under US sanctions since 2017 for alleged corruption and money laundering. His appointment as Vice President had raised concerns among some international observers and opposition groups, who saw it as a move to consolidate power and potentially pave the way for Bol Mel to succeed Kiir .

The dismissal is part of a broader cabinet reshuffle, with several other high-ranking officials also being removed from their positions. The move has sparked speculation about Kiir's political future and potential succession plans
