South Sudan plans to introduce a new generation of passports in August 2027, extending the validity of regular passports from 5 years to 10 years, pending approval by Parliament and the Council of Ministers.
The redesigned passports will feature enhanced security features and showcase South Sudan's identity through images of its 10 states, three administrative regions, wildlife, forests, the River Nile, and other national landmarks. The holder's occupation will also be removed from the passport and stored digitally.
The country also plans to begin issuing the East African Community (EAC) passport, making travel within EAC member states easier and supporting regional integration.
