"Why does African culture matter?".

African culture matters because it is the heartbeat of African identity, history, and humanity. It carries the wisdom of our ancestors, the strength of our communities, and the values that shape who we are. From our languages, traditions, music, dances, clothing, and storytelling to our respect for elders and unity among families, African culture teaches dignity, discipline, togetherness, and respect for life.

In a world that is changing rapidly, African culture remains a powerful foundation that reminds young generations where they come from and where they belong. A people without culture can easily lose their identity, morals, and direction. Culture gives Africans pride, confidence, and a sense of purpose. It connects communities, promotes peace, and preserves the rich heritage that has survived for centuries despite colonization, war, and modernization.

African culture also matters because it is a source of knowledge and development. Traditional practices in leadership, conflict resolution, agriculture, healing, and community support continue to guide societies today. Across the world, African music, fashion, art, and cuisine are influencing global culture and proving that Africa is not a continent without value, but a continent full of creativity, wisdom, and strength.

Protecting African culture is not about rejecting modern life; it is about preserving the roots that keep people grounded while moving forward. When young people embrace their culture positively, they grow with identity, confidence, and respect for their heritage. African culture is not backward โ€” it is a treasure that must be protected, celebrated, and passed on to future generations.

The Silent Pain of Women in South Sudan.

In many parts of South Sudan, women carry the weight of society on their shoulders, yet they remain among the people who suffer the most. From villages to towns, many women wake up every day not knowing whether they will find food for their children, access medical care, or live in peace. Their struggles are often hidden behind smiles, silence, and endurance.

For years, conflict, poverty, displacement, and economic hardship have deeply affected families across the country. Women are usually the first to feel the pain and the last to receive support. Many walk long distances to fetch water, care for children alone, work in farms under harsh conditions, and still face violence at home and in their communities. Some young girls are forced into early marriages because their families see no other way to survive.

In rural areas, many women give birth without proper hospitals or trained health workers. Others lose opportunities for education because culture and poverty continue to limit their freedom. Widows and single mothers struggle daily to feed their children while facing rejection, insecurity, and emotional suffering.

Despite all these hardships, the women of South Sudan continue to show strength, courage, and resilience. They are farmers, mothers, peacebuilders, teachers, traders, and community leaders. They hold families together during war, hunger, and uncertainty. Yet their voices are still ignored in many decisions that affect their lives.
A nation cannot truly grow while its women continue to suffer in silence. Supporting women means supporting families, communities, and the future of the country itself. There is a need for stronger protection of womenโ€™s rights, better education for girls, improved healthcare, economic opportunities, and an end to violence against women.

The suffering of women in South Sudan is not just a womenโ€™s issue. It is a national issue that demands compassion, action, and responsibility from everyone.
