Governor Emmanuel Adil’s journey to Yei puts road concerns in the spotlight

Governor Hon. Emmanuel Adil was welcomed to Yei amid light drizzle, but his journey to the town appears to have offered him a firsthand view of the road conditions along the Juba–Lainya–Yei route.

For many residents, his experience has raised hopes that the concerns repeatedly shared about the state of the roads will now be understood from direct observation, rather than being dismissed as misinformation or exaggeration.

Citizens say they are looking forward to hearing from the Governor at Freedom Square, where they hope he will respond to the questions and concerns they have previously raised about the road situation and other issues affecting communities along the route.

Torit authorities arrest suspected gang leader amid rising youth violence

Authorities in Torit Municipality have arrested a 25-year-old man accused of attacking a resident with a machete, as concerns grow over youth-related violence.

Dominic Gidu Peterno was arrested by municipal security forces after allegedly attacking 35-year-old James Ohayo in Hai Ingas residential area.

Torit Mayor Eddy William Ponsiano condemned the incident as “barbaric”, urging young people to reject violence and settle disputes peacefully.

Similar cases have also been reported in some suburbs of South Sudan’s capital, Juba, where gangs have allegedly used guns to intimidate and terrorise residents.

The growing violence raises a difficult question: what is driving young people into gangs and crime — a struggling economy and lack of opportunities, poor parental guidance, or a combination of both?

South Sudan: Governor Emmanuel Adil visits Yei as grassroots tour continues

Traditional Adungu music welcomed Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony to Yei Freedom Square during a visit to Yei County.

The governor is touring the county to hear directly from residents about the challenges affecting communities and their priorities for local development.

The visit also focuses on peace and security, as well as preparations for South Sudan’s December 2026 elections.

Governor Adil is expected to meet local leaders, community representatives and residents as part of the grassroots engagement.

The tour comes as authorities and communities continue efforts to promote peace and stability ahead of the elections.

Twic East MP Calls on Jonglei Women to Attend National Women’s League

Juba, South Sudan — The National Member of Parliament for Twic East County, Hon. Deng Dau Deng Malek, has called on women from the nine counties of Jonglei State to attend the National Women’s League scheduled for 11 August 2026.

The event was organised by President Salva Kiir Mayardit as part of efforts to bring together women from across the country.

Hon. Deng also urged young people interested in politics to register for membership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) ahead of South Sudan’s planned national elections.

South Sudan is preparing to hold elections on 22 December 2026, following years of political uncertainty and delays to the country’s electoral process.

The MP encouraged eligible citizens, particularly young people, to participate in political activities and engage in the electoral process.

The National Women’s League is expected to bring together women representatives from across Jonglei State and other parts of South Sudan.
