National Security Service Detains Dr. Riek Machar's Cameraman

Yesterday morning, at approximately 07:30 AM CTA, the National Security Service (NSS) in Juba detained Mr. Naathdial Tuak Yerock at the Freedom Hall entrance. He was on his way to attend the first hearing of the politically motivated trial of H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon and other SPLM/A-IO political detainees.

Mr. Yerock, a Senior Photographer in the Media and Press Department in the Office of the First Vice President, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, was subsequently taken to the NSS detention center on the riverside in Juba.

This incident represents a continuing pattern of arbitrary and unlawful detention by the NSS and other security apparatuses against constitutional post-holders, senior officials and officers, and members of SPLM/A (IO).

The Office of the First Vice President condemns in the strongest possible terms the arbitrary arrest and detention of its staff.

We, therefore, call for the immediate release of Mr. Naathdial Tuak Yerock and all other detained SPLM/A-IO officials and officers.

Ajo Noel Should Have Known Better

The name of Harvard University carries weight, respect, and prestige across the globe. To drag it into a shallow and compromised trial such as the so-called Nasir case is nothing short of disgraceful.

Counsel Ajo Noel Ohisa, a man once polished by world-class legal training, should have known better than to lend his name and reputation to a kangaroo court orchestrated by political actors. By allowing himself to be reduced to an instrument in this spectacle, he risks assassinating not only his career but also tarnishing the very institution that molded him.

No amount of political convenience or forced alignment should make a Harvard-trained lawyer forget his oath to justice and professional integrity. If he cannot stand firm against mediocrity and manipulation, the most honorable step is to recuse himself entirely.

This is not only about one man’s career it is about protecting the sanctity of law, the dignity of legal practice, and the reputation of institutions that should remain above political games.
