QUOTE: "Our Constitution does not exempt anyone from arrest. Garangdit can be arrested, and so can anyone else, including the Head of State, if they commit an offense that warrants arrest. No one is above the law.

However, it is important that when a person is arrested, they are brought before a court of law so that the court can determine whether they are guilty or innocent. If found guilty, they should serve the sentence imposed by the court. If found innocent, they should be released and allowed to return to their families.

Even in cases where the death penalty is imposed, due process must be followed so that justice is served and the family is given the opportunity to bury their loved one with dignity.

What has confused and concerned many people today is the practice whereby individuals are arrested, detained, and then forgotten without being taken to court for trial. To be honest, this is not fair at all.

I am saying this not because it concerns me or someone already in detention, but because it concerns all of us, including those who arrest others. One day, you too could be arrested and would wish to be taken before a court to receive a fair trial."

QUOTE: “Laws are made by the people to protect the people. No one is above the law. If laws favor some people while disadvantaging others, then they cease to be true laws. If people are arrested and not taken to court, then what kind of law is that? Everywhere in the world, when someone is arrested, the next step is investigation and then court proceedings. It should not take months or years. Here, people are sent to jail, and that is the end of it. They remain behind bars for long periods, and eventually people begin to forget about them.”
