It is very sad to chase away the people who are part of us by blood, by identity, and by belonging. No community is complete without its own sons and daughters, and no human being should be treated as an enemy simply because of where he was born or where his heart and life are connected.
Though I do not know Aker personally, I still feel genuine happiness when I see the son within us being recognized and called “Dut Aker.” That moment may look like something related to football to outsiders, but to us it is far deeper than sport. It is about pride, continuity, and the dignity of a community that has a long history and deserves to be respected.
Football is only one field. Life has many fields where the sons of our daughters and the children who carry our blood and ethics can contribute to community progress. Some can contribute through education, leadership, public service, medicine, agriculture, business, culture, and any other work that builds a better Twic and a better future for all. A community advances when it embraces everyone who belongs to it and encourages talent, not when it focuses on exclusion.
We were all born in Twic. Even when people migrate, even when they grow up in different places, at the end of the day we all return to the truth: we came from Twic, and we will leave Twic to the next generation. So the question we should always ask is not, “Who should we chase away today?” but rather, “How do we protect Twic so that it grows and becomes stronger tomorrow?”
To be honest, every community is made up of different categories of people. some are children born directly within the traditional line, some are children of our daughters, some are people who admired the beauty, the culture, and the ethics of Twic and some are families that relate to Twic through history, friendship, and shared values.
All these people are connected to Twic in one way or another. When we chase them, we are not only chasing individuals we are weakening the community itself. We are breaking ties.
In the next 100 years, none of us will still be in this beautiful world. What will remain is the beautiful Twic community we leave behind. And those who will make up Twic in the future will be the grand children and descendants of the very people we are attempting to chase today. If we reject them now with anger and emotion, then we will be planting harm into the future even harms that will grow long after our names are forgotten.
I truly believe that any group of people trying to chase sons and daughters of our daughters or people who admire Twic's values and ethics, out of Twic is an approach that is anti progress and growth.
Progress of our community should be strengthening unity where every eligible member can contribute. Chasing our own people is beyond sports.
No family can reject its own blood and the people it carries even if there are disagreements, the blood of our own daughters or people who admires the community shouldn't be reduced to labels and treated as enemies because they belong to the community in legal, cultural or familial way.
The leadership of Twic Mayardit Peace Tournament should pause and carefully review.
How will a child feel when he/she hears that their belonging is rejected?
What message are we sending about peace, unity and respect? Are we building Twic or are we slowly destroying the bonds between us and our daughters?
Sincerely,
