Catholic Diocese of Torit takes over Fulla Secondary School

Friday, 5 September 2025

Nimule, Eastern Equatoria — The Catholic Diocese of Torit (CDOT) has officially taken full ownership and administration of Fulla Senior Secondary School, which had been under government management since its establishment in 1999.

Under the terms of the MOU signed in 2007, the administration of the school will now be run concurrently by representatives from both the church and the government.
CDOT will appoint the head teacher, while the government will appoint the deputy head teacher.

In a related development, a suspension letter was delivered to the former head teacher, Tako Charles, on the same occasion. The reason for the suspension was not disclosed.

Shooting Reported Along Juba–Nimule Highway

A vehicle was shot 2 days ago along the Juba Nimule Highway, between Nesitu and Jebel Molok. Eyewitnesses say the attackers were in uniform, raising serious questions about who could be behind such incidents.

This comes barely a day after a similar attack was reported in the same area. Authorities are being urged to investigate immediately to ensure the safety of road users.

Presidential Envoy Adut Salva Kiir visits inmates at Juba Prison

Presidential Envoy on Special Programs Adut Salva Kiir on Friday visited inmates at Juba Prison, where she listened to concerns from both prisoners and authorities about conditions in South Sudan’s prison system.

The Director General of the National Prison Service of South Sudan (NPSSS), Gen. Henry Akuany, said the service is currently running 92 prisons across the country, holding more than 13,000 inmates. He noted that prisons continue to face major challenges, including limited funding, poor feeding, inadequate medical services, and shortages of uniforms and transport for senior officers.

A prisoners’ representative raised additional concerns about overcrowding, disease outbreaks, lack of clean water, and long delays in trials, which keep many inmates on remand.

Addressing the inmates, Adut stressed that prisoners deserve dignity and humane treatment. She assured them that her office would remain open to receive their concerns, adding that while reforms may not come overnight, she is committed to gradual improvements.

During her tour of the men’s, women’s, and juvenile sections, she pledged to support juveniles detained over minor offences and promised to work for their release, urging them to reform and avoid future trouble.

Her visit was welcomed by both inmates and prison officials, raising hopes for reforms in the country’s correctional system.
