ETHIOPIA PEACE TALKS OPEN IN SOUTH AFRICA

The Pretoria dialogue represents the first publicly announced talks between the rivals, although a Western official has confirmed that secret contacts had taken place organised by the United States in the Seychelles and twice in Djibouti.

Abiy first sent troops into Tigray in November 2020, promising a quick victory over the northern region's dissident leaders, the TPLF, after what he said were attacks by the group on federal army camps.

The move followed long-running tensions with the TPLF, which had dominated Ethiopia's ruling coalition before Abiy came to power in 2018 and sidelined the party.

Amnesty appeal

In a rare comment on the conflict last week, Abiy -- who won the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize for his rapprochement with Eritrea -- said the war "would end and peace will prevail".

But on Monday, Tigray's leader Debretsion Gebremichael issued a defiant statement saying: "The Tigray army has the capacity to defeat our enemies totally."

Amnesty International on Monday urged rival forces to protect civilians in the face of intensifying hostilities.

In a statement, the watchdog charged that air strikes on Tigray's capital Mekele and the town of Adi Daero in August and September had "killed hundreds of civilians including children."

President Kiir meets the Ruler of Ajman in United Arab Emirates

His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Tuesday met with Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, the Ruler of Ajman, United Arab Emirates.

The two leaders exchanged views on how South Sudan and United Arab Emirates can strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in the areas of agriculture, energy, and infrastructure development.

This is aimed at improvement of the welfare of the two countries' citizens.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, South Sudan's Minister of Presidential Affairs Hon. Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin said, His Royal Highness, Sheikh Humaid expressed his country's commitment to deepen the bilateral ties between South Sudan and UAE.

This targets improvement of trade and investment for the mutual benefit of the people of South Sudan and UAE.

THE VICTIMS ARE FROM LOKOYA COMMUNITY OF JUBA COUNTY. THE KILLERS GOT AWAY WITH GOTS AND AVDUCTED THREE CHILDREN.

THE GOVERNMENT OF CENTRAL EQUATORIA STATE HAS DEPLOYED SECURITY FORCES TO THE AREA.

Gov. Louis Lobong speaks outloud about constitutional rights to settle anywhere in South Sudan. "The constitution says, you as individual have right to settle and live anywhere in South Sudan but it doesn't say tribe", he stresses in simple Arabic as he receives applauds from the congregation.

He also advises people to refrain derogatory utterances such as "I fought and we shed blood". Accordig to him, that doesn't give any community superiority over another. He stressed that every community contributed in the liberation struggle.

I captured this picture of the late Haacaaluu Hundeessaa exactly on this day, March 2, 2019. This picture was shared by millions of his fans, millions made this picture their profile picture, many artists drew and painted the picture, some got the picture tattooed on their bodies, many printed on their T-shirts…..and most of all in their hearts.

One of my fond memories of our conversation we had that day when I approached him to take his picture, Hacee told me ‘’ GURBAA SUURA SEENAA QABU NAKAASIGAA” patting my shoulder . 😭😭

Adwa reminds me of the fearless heroes who died for their people. For me Haacaaluu Hundeessaa was one of them. Keep Resting in Peace, Legend!!🙏🏿🙏🏿

At the Himba of Namibia in Southern Africa, the date of birth of a child is fixed, not at the time of its arrival in the world, nor in its design, but much earlier: since the day the child is thought in His Mother's mind.⠀

When a woman decides she's going to have a child, she settle down and rests under a tree, and she listens until she can hear the song of the child who wants to be born. And after she heard this child's song, she comes back to the man who will be the father of the child to teach him that song. And then, when they make love to physically design the child, they sing the song of the child, to invite him.⠀

When the mother is pregnant, she teaches the singing of this child to the midwives and older women of the village. So, when the child is born, old women and people around him sing his song to welcome him.⠀
⠀
As the child grows, the other villagers learn his song. So if the child falls, or gets hurt, he always finds someone to pick him up and sing his song. Similarly, if the child does something wonderful, or successfully passes through the rites of passage, the people of the village sing his song to honor him.⠀

In the tribe, there is another opportunity where villagers sing for the child. If, at any time during his life, the person commits an aberrant crime or social act, the individual is called in the center of the village and the people of the community form a circle around him. Then they sing his song.⠀
⠀
The tribe recognizes that the correction of antisocial behavior does not pass through punishment, it is by love and reminder of identity. When you recognize your own song, you don't want or need to do anything that would harm the other.⠀
And the same way through their lives. In Marriage, songs are sung together.⠀
⠀
And when, getting old, this kid is lying in his bed, ready to die, all the villagers know his song, and they sing, for the last time, his song. 🎶💞
