Good News : Mama Mary Ayen Mayardit, Donated a Community Radio Station in Akon Amid Request of Awan Chan Community Leadership

Awan Chan Community leadership has announced the allocation and establishment of a community radio station at the grassroots level Akon to amplify local voices and preserve indigenous cultures.

This radio initiative will prioritize community needs, broadcasting in Dinka, English, Arabic and other local languages, while focusing on peacebuilding, civic education and oral traditions.

The project is expected to start in the first week of November 2025 in Akon while the local authorities are urging the authorities concern not for this project to be like Akon International airport.

This community radio aims to create local media partnerships “by and for South Sudanese” to counter misinformation and cultural erosion.

The team on their last week assessment to Akon, expressed their gratitude to the people of Awan Chan for their warm reception and the implementation of the land allocation for the radio station. Sultan Agoth Nyal Chan and other important personalities were present at the reception. The land is allocated in the Akon area, near to the Youth Center.

The team was led by Daniel Mareng, Secretary General of Awan Chan Community in Juba; Thiep Mawien Thiep, Chairperson of the Awan Rup Youth Association in Juba; and Mrs. Adut Deng Juach, NRA representative.

Twic East - More than 30,000 people in Twic East County have been displaced by floods and are in need of humanitarian assistance, according to local authorities.

In an assessment conducting by Twic East Emergency Response Committee chaired by Majak Deng Awuol and the Deputy chairperson of Twic East Youth Association in Juba, Arok Atem Arok said Nile waters level have submerged 6 payams of Twic East forcing families to flee to tge higher ground.

They also added that the displaced people are living without clean water. That's to say, they drink flood water, adequate food, medicine, and shelters..

Sections of some of 11, 000 officers and other ranks, members of the organised forces from SPLA-IO that declared thier defection from SPLM/ SPLA-IO under detained FVP Dr Riek Machar Teny and switched thier allegiance/ loyalty to the government/ SSPDF under the leadership & command of H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan and C-IN-C of SSPDF and Supreme Commander of all the organised.

Included in the picturial section, are sections of traditional Chiefs who also announced switching of allegiance/ loyalty to the government/ SSPDF.

Its important to point out, that those pictures were taken today, 27/10/2025 in Pul- Turuk village, Pul Turuk Payam, Nyirol County, Jonglei State.

Arek Angui is a South Sudanese basketball player standing 6′9″ tall, making her one of the tallest women’s college basketball players in the U.S.

She was born in Juba, South Sudan, and later moved to the United States, where she attended Greenforest Christian Academy in Georgia, helping her team win a state title.

Arek began her college career with the UCF Knights (2024–25 season) before transferring to the Auburn Tigers. Though early in her college journey, she’s known for her size, defensive presence, and rebounding potential.

She represents the growing wave of South Sudanese talent rising in international basketball, inspiring many young girls from her home country to dream big.

South Sudan Should Consider Global Expertise for Central Bank Leadership, Says Advocate Paul Dhel Gum

South Sudanese advocate Paul Dhel Gum has suggested that South Sudan should consider hiring a foreign expert to lead the Bank of South Sudan, arguing that such a move could strengthen the country’s fragile financial system.

In an opinion shared this week, Dhel Gum drew parallels with the United Kingdom’s 2015 decision to appoint Mark Carney, then Governor of the Bank of Canada, as the first foreign head of the Bank of England in its 318-year history.

The appointment, backed by former British Prime Minister David Cameron, was widely viewed as a bold and strategic effort to inject international experience into Britain’s financial management.

“Carney’s leadership helped stabilize Canada’s banking system, which weathered the 2008 global financial crisis without a single major bailout — a remarkable achievement,” Gum noted.

He argued that South Sudan’s financial institutions, particularly the central bank, remain “dangerously fragile, held hostage by politics, mediocrity, and short-term interests.”

Gum said meaningful reform requires courage and the willingness to prioritize competence over political loyalty.

“Until South Sudan finds or dares to appoint a truly dynamic, skilled, and visionary governor capable of insulating the Bank from political turbulence and economic shocks, the country’s fiscal foundations will continue to weaken,” he stated.

He concluded that progress sometimes demands bold decisions, even if it means seeking expertise beyond the nation’s borders for the greater good of the country.

Breaking News:Heartbroken lady attempts su***de over failure to marry

A 35-year-old single lady from Mia Saba, Central Equatoria State, reportedly attempted su***de early this morning at her residence after expressing deep frustration over not being married.
According to eyewitnesses, residents were left in shock after the woman, whose name has been withheld for security reasons, lamented that most of her age-mates had already married and started families, while she remained single and living at her parents’ home.

In tears, she questioned whether her family might have offended anyone spiritually or socially, believing that could be the cause of her misfortune.
“Mummy and Daddy, please, if you ever offended anyone, go and apologize. I am tired of being mocked by my friends who say I have a birth problem or that no man will ever marry me. I have never even been pregnant, yet I remain single,” she said.

Her mother, whose name was also withheld, comforted her daughter while weeping, urging her not to lose hope.
“My daughter, I know it has taken long, but you cannot take your life because no man has come for your hand in marriage. Your father and I have no issues with our neighbors,” she said.
Community members expressed concern over the growing number of unmarried women facing emotional distress, calling on men to value faithful and responsible women instead of neglecting them.

Authorities and local leaders have urged families to offer emotional support and counseling to women facing similar situations to prevent such tragic attempts in the future.
