Juba โ Equity Commercial Bank has made an announcement to temporarily suspend SSP (South Sudanese Pounds) from all bank ATMs located across South Sudan.
"The bank is advising its customers they will, until further notice, only be able to receive US Dollars when withdrawing cash from ATMs, and other foreign currencies", last week notice sent to customers read. It did not give a reason for stopping SSP withdrawals but called the action "unavoidable".
"We have temporarily suspended SSP (local currency) withdrawal from all the Equity ATMs," the statement read in part.
The bank has advised route for all customers to withdraw the SSP locally would be to go to a branch and do it over the counter.
The Bank did not say how long it intends to suspend ATM withdrawals, and many customers aren't clear in terms of how long normal operation will be suspended.
