SSPDF Conducts Aerial Bombardment in Southeastern Panyijiar

Panyijiar, South Sudan – 23 June 2025. A developing situation is unfolding in Panyijiar County, Unity State, as government forces under the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) are reportedly carrying out aerial bombardments in the southeastern part of the county.

Local sources from the area confirmed to our newsroom early this morning that military aircraft believed to be operated by the SSPDF began launching air strikes shortly after dawn, targeting suspected opposition positions.

The motive behind the offensive remains unclear, but initial reports indicate rising tensions in the region following recent clashes and movements of armed groups near the county borders.

There is no immediate confirmation of casualties or damage, but civilians are said to be fleeing villages in fear as explosions echo across the lowlands.

Humanitarian organizations operating in the area have expressed concern about the safety of civilians and are calling for restraint and protection of non-combatants.

It is easier to drop bombs on Panyijiar than it has been to construct roads over the last 15 years. We have been flooded for the last seven years and this government never paid any attention to people's lives and today they are roaming in the skies with hired helicopters.
