President Salva Kiir has promoted Vice President Benjamin Bol Mel from Lieutenant General to the rank of General in the army.

With this promotion, he becomes one of the few active generals, joining the CDF, IGP, Director General of Prisons, Director General of Wildlife Services, and the Director Generals of the Internal Security Bureau (ISB) and General Security Bureau (GIB) of the NSS.
