SMA as it is commonly known was established in 2017 by Moses Yasin, a south Sudanese with passion for the industry to grow. The awards are annually organized as part of our efforts to preserve and promote our culture with close working ties with the South Sudan Artists’ Union, National Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sports and other partners. The South Sudan Music Awards Festival is largely a people’s choice awards scheme that seeks to foster the development of South Sudan music industry by rewarding and celebrating musicians who have excelled in the seven main music genres in the country. For the past four years, the Award Scheme has become a barometer by which South Sudanese musicians measure their success every year and undoubtedly serves as an inspiration to the entire music industry. Founded in 2017, the South Sudan Music Awards intend to Promote and uplift the music industry in the country and merge all available resources and technical know-how to promote, protect and sustain our art. We envision an awards scheme which is the most prestigious and most sought after music awards in South Sudan and the region, by the artists, sponsors and the music lovers.
