Bank of South Sudan Declares Mobile Money as Legal Tender

The Bank of South Sudan has officially recognized mobile money as legal tender, a landmark move aimed at transforming the country’s financial landscape.

This major policy shift paves the way for more inclusive, efficient, and secure financial transactions nationwide. It also builds on recent reforms, including the launch of South Sudan’s first national instant payment system earlier this year.

Mobile money platforms such as M-Gurush and MTN Mobile Money will now be fully integrated into the formal monetary system. The decision is part of a broader push to modernize the financial sector, reduce reliance on cash, and drive economic diversification beyond oil.

By legitimizing digital transactions, the government aims to boost financial access especially in remote and underserved areas while encouraging domestic capital mobilization and reducing risks tied to cash handling.

More details will be released as the rollout progresses.

THE FALL OF SAMUEL DOE ; In 1980, Samuel Doe, a young soldier, took power in Liberia with a violent coup, killing President William Tolbert and executing ministers on a beach in Monrovia.

The people watched, shocked, as leaders were stripped naked and shot. Doe, once a nobody, became Liberia’s first non-Americo-Liberian ruler, promising change. But power is like a river—it flows, then slips away.

By 1989, Doe’s own end came, brutal and public. Rebels tortured him on live TV, treating him like an animal before killing him. His cries echoed, a reminder: no matter how strong you seem, power does not last forever.

This story hits hard for Africans who know struggle and see leaders rise and fall.

From villages to cities, we understand—today’s king can be tomorrow’s victim.

Doe’s life shows us power is borrowed, not owned. It’s a lesson in simple words: hold power lightly, because life turns fast, and no one escapes fate.

Whether you speak English well or not, the truth is clear—nothing lasts, and pride can lead to pain.
