Message of Peace to the Community of Tonj East County

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Tonj East,

I greet you all in peace and with love for our land and people.

Our communities are blessed by God with many resources—our cows, goats, fertile lands, and the strength of our youth. These are not things to fight over but gifts to build our future. Let us not allow anger and division to destroy what God has graciously given us. Instead, let us rise together as one people—united in purpose and in brotherhood.

Fighting brings pain, loss, and poverty. But unity brings peace, growth, and prosperity. Our young people are full of energy and ideas—let us guide them into business and meaningful work that can uplift families and transform Tonj East into a place of hope and progress.

I urge every leader, elder, youth, and mother to speak peace, act in peace, and pursue peace. Let us turn our spears into ploughs, our disputes into dialogue, and our rivalry into cooperation.

This is the time to build. This is the time to invest in our resources and in each other. May God bless Tonj East with unity, peace, and a vision for a better tomorrow.

Together, we rise. Divided, we fall. Let us choose peace.

Why do we practice sports?

It’s an honor to speak about something that is not only fun but also incredibly important in our lives—sports. In Tonj and across the world, sports bring people together, build character, and promote fitness. Today, I want to talk about how engaging in sports can help us in three key areas: unity, leisure, and fitness.

1. Sports Promote Unity
One of the most amazing things about sports is how they bring people together. Whether we’re playing football, basketball, or any other sport, we learn how to work as a team. In a place like Tonj, where people come from different tribes and backgrounds, sports can unite us by showing that we are stronger when we work together. The Bible teaches us about the power of unity in Psalm 133:1:
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”
Through sports, we can build bridges of friendship and understanding that will last far beyond the game itself.

2. Sports Provide Leisure and Enjoyment
We all need time to relax and have fun, and sports are a great way to do this. In the midst of our busy lives—whether in school, work, or home responsibilities—sports offer us a healthy way to unwind. Playing a game with friends or even just kicking a ball around can bring joy and refresh our minds. Ecclesiastes 3:13 reminds us that,
“everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.”
God wants us to enjoy life, and sports provide a wonderful way to experience joy and fellowship with others.

3. Sports Encourage Physical Fitness
Taking care of our bodies is important. Sports not only keep us active, but they also help us maintain our physical health. Engaging in regular physical activity helps to strengthen our muscles, improve our endurance, and keep our minds sharp. As 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us,
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit? … Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
When we play sports, we are taking care of the body that God has given us, making sure that we are strong and healthy to do His work.

Conclusion: A Call to Participate
So, I encourage all of you to take part in sports, whether it’s as simple as playing with friends or joining a local team. Not only will you find joy and build friendships, but you will also keep your body healthy and strong. Through sports, we can create unity in our community, enjoy leisure time in a positive way, and take care of the bodies God has blessed us with.

Let’s make Tonj a place where sports bring us closer, give us joy, and help us live healthier lives.

Is Tonj Youth union in Juba alive or should I mind my business?

I am asking this because youth are scattered and nothing brings Tonj youth together now since the division started a year ago due to leadership struggle between the two elites.

Earlier this year, we heard that Tonj community leadership were assigned to be the ones handing over the union’s leadership which is still pending up to now. I also saw a letter giving two weeks to the community to dissolve or else the leaders resume their leadership.

What do you think will be the future of Tonj Youth union in Juba?
