President Salva Kiir has made major changes in the government, relieving several senior officials of their duties and appointing new ones with immediate effect.

In a series of presidential decrees issued on Wednesday, Salvatore Garang Mabiordit has been relieved from his position as Minister of Finance and Planning.

Julius Tabuley Daniel has also been relieved of his role as Deputy Minister of Public Service and Human Resource Development.

In the Ministry of Defence and Veterans’ Affairs, Gen. Santino Deng Wol has been relieved as Undersecretary for Veterans’ Affairs, while General Dr. Paul Nang Majok has been relieved from his position as Chief of Defence Forces of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces.

In the new appointments, Kuol Daniel Avulo has been named the Minister of Finance and Planning.

Clement Juma Mbugonvia has been appointed Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.

Former Jonglei state governor, Mahjoub Biel Turuk takes over as Deputy Minister of Public Service and Human Resource Development.

General Santino Deng Wol has been appointed the new Chief of Defence Forces of the SSPDF, while Dr. Paul Nang Majok has been appointed Undersecretary for Veterans’ Affairs in the Ministry of Defence and Veterans’ Affairs.

The President extended his appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service and wished the newly appointed leaders success in their new roles.

The decrees take effect immediately.

Summary of Today’s Presidential Decrees

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a series of presidential decrees effecting major changes across key government institutions:

â– Daniel John Kifa has been relieved of his duties as Commissioner of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).

â– Major General Mawien Mawien Ariik has been promoted to the rank of General and appointed Director General of the Internal Security Bureau (ISB) under the National Security Service (NSS).

â– Dr. Matiok Santino has been relieved of his duties as Undersecretary in the Ministry of Mining.

â– Hon. Deng Makuok Reech has been appointed as the new Undersecretary in the Ministry of Mining.

â– Prof. Robert Mayom has been relieved of his duties as Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, and Prof. John Akec has been re-appointed as the new Vice Chancellor.

â– John Woja has been relieved of his duties as Director General of Civil Aviation.

â– General Chiech Mayor has been relieved of his duties as Director General of the Internal Security Bureau.

â– Caesar Oliha Marko has been relieved of his duties as Undersecretary in the Ministry of Transport.

â– Paul Dhel Gum has been appointed as Undersecretary in the Ministry of Transport.

President Kiir has relieved the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Petroleum, Deng Lual Wol.

Kiir also relieved the Managing Director of Nile Petroleum Corporation, Ayuel Ngor, as well as the Managing Director of the National Communication Authority, Gieth Kon Mathiang.

Kiir reappointed Dr. Chol Thon as Undersecretary in the Ministry of Petroleum, Rizik Dominic Samuel as Managing Director of NCA, and Emmanuel Athiei Ayual, MD of Nile Petroleum.
