JUST IN: Sicelo Mhlanga’s reporting with Swaziland News leads to new Footbridge

BY SICELO MHLANGA
ESwatini Newsroom | 24 July 2025

HOSEA: A new footbridge has been completed at Nsidzatje-Bufaneni, thanks to persistent reporting by journalist Sicelo Mhlanga through Swaziland News.
The bridge, replacing a dangerous wooden crossing over the Ngwavuma River, will be officially opened on Friday by government officials.
In 2023, Mhlanga exposed the daily risks faced by schoolchildren crossing the river, prompting national attention and government response.
“This bridge is proof of what determined journalism and media support can achieve,” said Mhlanga. “I’m grateful to Swaziland News for backing the story and helping give a voice to the community.”

BREAKING NEWS: Late popular Inyanga and Hosea-Lushini Indvuna Majona's house burns down mysteriously

BY SICELO MHLANGA
ESwatini Newsroom–09 JULY 2025

HLUTI: The house of the late, highly regarded traditional healer and Lushini Royal Kraal headman, Majona Simelane, mysteriously caught fire on Monday, a few days before his cleansing ceremony, which is scheduled for this Friday.
Simelane's death was exclusively reported by this newspaper a month ago. At the time, it was revealed that the circumstances surrounding his passing were questionable, leaving his family with more questions than answers.
When reached for comment, a close relative disclosed that Simelane's house caught fire under mysterious circumstances. Although the fire was noticed early, efforts to extinguish it failed.
“Gallons of water were poured inside the house, but it was like petrol had been used, the fire grew tall and became uncontrollable,” the relative said.
An investigation conducted by this journalist into his death uncovered that Simelane was last seen sleeping under the family tree. However, within the blink of an eye, he was found lying outside the family yard with a large scar on his head. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead. It was suspected that he may have fallen and hit his head on a hard object.

BREAKING NEWS: Sex-for-Jobs scandal rocks Nhlangano Boxer Store

BY SICELO MHLANGA
ESwatini Newsroom– 07 July 2025

NHLANGANO: Serious allegations of sexual exploitation have surfaced at Boxer Superstore in Nhlangano, where a senior official is accused of demanding sexual favours from young female workers in exchange for job security.
According to a source within the store, who spoke to ESwatini Newsroom on condition of anonymity, the manager allegedly promises contract extensions and potential permanent employment to female employees in return for sexual relations.
In an interview with ESwatini Newsroom, the accused manager denied the allegations, claiming they are false. He said he suspects the accusations may be coming from individuals who feel mistreated or harbor personal grudges. He also cited internal conflicts among colleagues as a possible reason behind what he described as an attempt to tarnish his reputation.
This publication is in possession of both the name and photographs of the manager accused of this misconduct. These will be published should the need arise, in the public interest and in line with ethical journalism standards.
Meanwhile, ESwatini Newsroom will continue investigating the matter and reaching out to the company’s senior officials and potential victims for further comment.

SHOCKING: Patients at Mankayane Government Hospital fed cabbage and rice amid national healthcare collapse

BY SICELO MHLANGA
ESwatini Newsroom– 05 July 2025

MANKAYANE: Patients admitted to Mankayane Government Hospital are being starved and neglected under shocking conditions. Every day, the sick and vulnerable are served a plate of boiled cabbage and rice, an unbalanced, nutrient-deficient meal that hardly sustains life.
Media reports indicate that hospitals have run out of essential drugs, and the few staff who remain are overworked, underpaid, and helpless.

“We are watching patients starve and die because the government is doing nothing,” said one hospital worker.

ESwatini, formerly known as Swaziland, is ruled by King Mswati III, Africa’s last absolute monarch, who holds full executive power and appoints all government officials, including Ministers and the Prime Minister. Despite this centralized control, critical public services like healthcare have collapsed, leaving ordinary emaSwati to suffer in silence.
But those who speak out often face brutal consequences. Elected Members of Parliament who questioned the leadership and demanded an elected Prime Minister were arrested and imprisoned.
Political activists and ordinary citizens who supported these calls were also arrested, shot, or forced into exile. Some were even killed by state security forces.
Journalists who report on these facts also suffer the consequences. Many have been harassed, assaulted, or forced to flee the country. There is no press freedom in ESwatini. Reporting the truth has become a dangerous act.

Royal Friday: Evelyn Baring Rules Eswatini in Chess and Football

BY PHUMLANI DLAMINI
Eswatini Newsroom | 21 June 2025

Evelyn Baring High School etched its name into the history books on Friday, June 20, with a stunning double triumph in both the Eswatini Chess Championship and the INSTACASH Schools Soccer Tournament. The school, fondly known as the University of the South, proved its unmatched excellence by conquering both mind and muscle.

At the Caritas Centre, Evelyn Baring edged out Manzini Central High in a tightly contested Open Section chess finale, winning by a narrow 9 MP to 8 MP. The strategic win mirrored the football clash happening simultaneously at Mavuso Sports Centre, where Evelyn Baring again faced Manzini Central in a sold-out final. After a goalless 120 minutes, the blue-and-orange warriors held their nerve and won 3–2 on penalties, snatching the 2025 championship title.

This historic double is more than just a win—it’s a declaration of dominance. After falling short in recent finals, Evelyn Baring has finally seized the moment, lifting two trophies in one unforgettable day. The pride of the south has risen. Congratulations to the Shining Stars—your time is now.

BREAKING NEWS: Jailed MP Bacede Mabuza weds fourth wife behind bars

BY SICELO MHLANGA
ESwatini Newsroom | 12 June 2025

HOSEA: Behind prison walls, incarcerated former Member of Parliament Bacede Mabuza has reportedly married his latest partner, Temahlungwane Mkhonta of Hosea, in a traditional kuteka ceremony held earlier today.

A close family insider, speaking to eSwatini Newsroom on condition of anonymity, confirmed the unexpected nuptials.
"Yes, it's true. He got married to Tema Mkhonta this morning," the source said.
Despite serving time behind bars, Mabuza managed to formalize the union in a traditional ceremony attended by close family members. The development has left many shocked, given his current incarceration and the private nature of the proceedings.
This marks his fourth known marriage. Mabuza divorced his first wife, Thuli Dlamini, four years ago and had a rocky relationship with his third wife, Hloniphile Mkhonta, the status of which remains unclear. With this new union, Mabuza is now officially married to two women: Bongumenzi Vilakati and his new bride, Temahlungwane Mkhonta.
The unexpected marriage raises fresh questions about how the former MP continues to shape his personal life from within prison walls.
