It’s mental health awareness month let’s talk about running.

People often ask why runners keep doing it.

The truth is, most of us are not running away from anything. We are running towards something.
A clearer mind.
A moment of peace.
A break from carrying the weight of everything life asks of us.

There are days when the run is hard. Your legs hurt, your lungs burn, and your mind tells you to stop. But somehow you keep going.

Maybe that’s why running means so much to so many people.

It reminds us that we can do hard things, not just endure them mentally.

One step.
One breath.
One mile at a time.

There are moments in life that force us into leadership.
Not leadership over companies, teams, or titles, but leadership over ourselves.

Life changes unexpectedly. We lose people. We lose confidence. We lose direction. Sometimes we spend so much time surviving that we forget what it feels like to truly live.

Self-leadership is not about pretending to have everything together or waking up motivated every day. It is learning how to guide yourself through uncertainty without losing who you are in the process.

It is discipline, accountability, setting boundaries, and protecting your peace. Choosing to keep going even when life feels uncertain.

Many people are mentally and emotionally exhausted while trying to appear okay to the world. Behind many smiles are people dealing with things nobody knows about.

This edition is a reminder that strength can look different for everyone. Sometimes it is asking for help. Sometimes it is starting over. Sometimes it is simply refusing to give up on yourself.

If this edition does anything, I hope it reminds you that even during uncertain moments, you are still capable of rebuilding yourself.

Lastly, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who gave their time and contributed to this edition. Caicos Wellbeing Magazine is what it is because of people like you who continue to support the vision behind it.

A special thank you as well to Richard Whitehead MBE, double Paralympic gold medalist, Paralympic silver medalist, marathon and half-marathon world record holder, and founder of The Richard Whitehead Foundation, for being the face of this edition and for sharing his inspiring journey with such openness and humility.

I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to Hon. Zhavargo Jolly, Minister of Tourism, Agriculture, Fisheries and the Environment, for his contribution to this edition. Thank you for supporting the vision behind Caicos Wellbeing Magazine and the importance of conversations around wellbeing within our communities.

This edition will officially be published on the 5th of June 2026.

Warm regards,
Editor

“It means you believe have value, even if others don’t always see it”
- Mikey Forbes

Knowing your value and worth is important because not everyone will understand your journey, your heart, or the strength it took for you to become who you are today.

Never let temporary opinions make you question your value.

Some days do not go as planned, but we still have to eat.

Cooking can be very therapeutic. Even on difficult days, making yourself a nice meal can bring a little comfort and help quiet the mind.

What is mental health?

Mental health is not just what happens in the mind.
It is connected to how we sleep, eat, move, love, cope, heal, think, and experience life.

~Mental Health Awareness Month ~

Childbirth changes more than people realise.

Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and hormonally too. Many women are struggling silently without fully understanding what’s happening to them.

This video is definitely worth watching. ❤️

Learning to push yourself up… or pull yourself up… is hard.

But it’s important.

Every day, many of us are already doing emotional and mental push-ups without even realising it.

We push through anxiety.
We pull ourselves out of dark places.
We carry stress, grief, pressure, heartbreak, fear… and still somehow keep going.

So when you learn to do it physically too, whether it’s a push-up, a pull-up, a run, or simply showing up for yourself something shifts inside of you.

You become more confident because you know, you’re not only pushing up mentally you’re also able to physically.

So, one rep at a time.

Mentally. Emotionally. Physically.

My journey has not been easy.

I became a mother very young, and overnight it felt like people had already decided what my future would be.

Some said I would never become anything in life.

For some time, I believed the shame people placed on me. But then I held my daughter Stephanie for the first time, the most beautiful experience that changed me forever.

She became my reason to keep pushing.

Life was not easy. I had to balance work, motherhood, marriage, and responsibilities while trying to continue my education. I stopped more times than people know.

But I never fully gave up on myself.

In 2019, I earned my first degree and also completed a diploma in Private Investigation with honours. Stephanie got to watch me graduate. A moment I had dreamed about for years. Being the role model for my little princess.

Then in January 2020, my world shattered.

My princess died.

There were days I nearly gave up on life completely.

But deep down, I knew that if I gave up on myself, then a part of her story would end too.

So I kept going.

In January 2025, I graduated with a Master’s degree with Merit in Criminology and Criminal Psychology.

And today, May 14th, 2026, I submitted the final research piece for my second Master’s degree.

Sometimes I sit quietly and think:
from being judged and underestimated…
to this.

And despite everything, I thank God for never giving up on me.
