Good evening dull amigos/amigas. Could I ask for your views on airport travelator/moving walkway etiquette?? I am due to use an airport soon and have been giving this a lot of thought.
My assumption has always been that when using one of these contraptions the idea is to walk along them so you move at a generally faster pace than walking to the side of one.
So you can imagine my surprise when almost every time I use one my progress is ultimately impeded by a group of (perfectly able) people who just stand still - the moving walkway therefore immediately becomes a non moving walkway.
I usually just stand behind them and tut and look mildly annoyed whilst seething inside as those that, perhaps wisely, chose not to use it walk casually past me at a relative sprint compared to my snail like progress.
Sometimes I get so annoyed I even think of saying something mildly outrageous to the human blockages but then never do. But after the event I’ll wake at around 3am thinking of lots of whitty yet barbed comments that I could have gone with.
Is it just me?

Dull Fiancé
I have a diesel car and when starting it my other half makes me turn the key one click but without starting the ignition. I then have to wait 10 seconds before fully starting it up.

Over the course of several years, as nominated ‘tooth fairy’, I have collected my three children’s teeth, all except one tooth that my son accidentally swallowed and I wasn’t brave enough to retrieve. I never felt comfortable just throwing them in the rubbish, so now I have a matchbox full sitting in my bedside draw. What am I meant to do with them now? Does anyone else have this problem? I can see them still being here when I die, with whoever cleans out my stuff thinking I am some kind of psycho.

I've seen dozens of posts in this group about differences 'across the pond' that pertain to what things are called or what they mean or what they are. For example, American cookie vs. English biscuit. I might have missed this one, but I don't recall there being a question of American word aluminum vs. the British word aluminium.

I was saddened to learn that there is a clear answer to this question. It's not one of those histories surrounded by speculation.

The element was named alumium in 1808, then changed to aluminum in 1812, then changed gradually over time by British editors to aluminium to be more in keeping with other elements like potassium and sodium. The U.S. and Canada adopted aluminum and the rest of the English speaking world went with aluminium.

Quite disappointed to discover that “holes” in my cheese are not natural but machine made..
I’ve got to that conclusion after a couple of slices showed clear evidence the holes are cut.
Next time you buy Emmental or Maasdan cheese slices, do check if all holes are perfectly aligned.

Last weekend ruined due to Zizzi having this spot the '5 differences', when there are clearly only 4. Awaiting a response from Zizzi customer services after the restaurant manager and waiting staff were unable to locate the 5th difference.

What's your favourite UK motorway service station? I'm quite fond of Woolley Edge services, personally.

As a dull man I'm very much alone this holiday season. Also very depressed due to personal reasons. Would love someone to talk to during these times.

Been living in our house for 4 years now and just discovered this switch. I have no idea what it’s for or what it’ll do if I flick it. So I’ll probably just leave it as it is.

Whilst on a particularly dull tube ride this morning I passed some time wondering why two fellow travellers might be wearing what appear to be mules (ie slippers, usually only for indoor wear) whilst out and about. Fluffy edging and velour do not seem well suited to braving the elements in February to me but maybe I am simply not adventurous enough to throw such considerations to the wind.
Edit: It was on the London tube, just to be clear. Well spotted to those who identified it was a Circle Line train.

I needed to go to IKEA today but it was closed, despite it saying on its website it would be open. We diverted to McDonald’s where I picked up a 3 chicken select meal. NOW, here’s where it gets really dull. Inspecting my sour cream and chive dip closely I realise the plastic on top has hundreds of of tiny dimples on it. It feels great but then I start wondering, are these just there for the texture? Do they serve some sort of grip purpose, does it make the cream stick to it in some way that’s visually appealing? Is it some secret industrial technique I don’t know about? Surely it was to have a purpose as i imagine there’s some giant machine they’ve had to pay for that puts these dimples onto the plastic?
My girlfriend didn’t seem to care. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
